It really depends on what is the most comfortable to you. I like mine at about the three o'clock position. When I carry a 1911 I tend to go a little further back, more toward the four o'clock position. Small of the back is a bad idea to me. I am not a big guy
There are way too many variables here for you to make a determination based on replies on a gun board. The best thing for you to do is to try some configurations based on personal preferences: IWB v. pocket carry v. ankle v. shoulder, etc. Experiment a bit. Visit your local FFL guy and solicit some advice; most gun dealers will be happy to show you some variations that you can try on in their store so that you aren't buying a hundred different options online.
You'll narrow it down before long and make an educated purchase instead of a wild stab in the dark.
I'm large enough so that I don't like to carry IWB. I carry a Airweight J frame in my front pocket. At only 15 oz. I can carry all day without a problem. That is best for me. give it a try, you will probably like it... In the winter the same revolver in the same pocket holster gets transferred to my coat pocket.
Well I am a big guy but don't carry all that often becuase it is uncomfortable. Also I don't like pocket carry becuase I wear jeans everyday. Does anyone have a solution to that without making major changes?
Wherever I go, whatever I do, my 642 comes with me. It is always in my front pocket and I am a believer in wearing jeans whenever possible and always carrying while wearing them. I dont even notice anymore but if for some reason my pocket is empty I immediately notice it.
