thinking about a beretta cougar... done some searches on here, but it doesn't seem it gets talked about directly much - always in relation to the 92/96. the worst i could find was tamara's post saying it copied from colt... big deal, i think...

but, perhaps, it does have problems? tendency to jam? scarcity of mags? durability? anything it all?

I own a Beretta mini-cougar in .40S&W.
I like the pistol, and have kept it because I got a good deal on it. It has always been reliable, and smooth. It doesn't get shot much because I can't hit squat with it. I can't say for sure if that's because of me, or because of the gun, but it is not accurate in my hands.

thanks for the input.

regarding accuracy, i wonder if it is the short sight radius that is the problem - meaning, have you benched it?

I have several (3) of the DAO mini cougars in .45 ACP.

Accuracy is around 2.5" at 25 meters, using XS tritium sights. I find the express sights much easier to use than the factory ones.

The DAO models have a long, buttery smooth trigger pull. Much like a tuned S&W revolver. I have no use for the TDA style, so I can't comment on them. I hear a lot of folks with them have replaced the springs with those from a DAO.

The grip is one of the most ergonomic ones I have ever found on an auto. The full size models are a bit large to conceal, so I went with the mini.

Extremely reliable, top quality. And I am hard to impress.

the biggest downside of the cougar line is..beretta has discontinued it

depending what you want the gun to do ...its great for home defense and target shooting... for a CCW it may be a bit too big and/or heavy for some

i have the 9mm "L" model and it works for me in all aspects..the grip is part of my hand..i find it accurate out of the box..i like it so much i bought a fullsize .45 cougar as a bedside companion..so to speak

for me the only "major" drawback was re-assembly..a bit tricky..but once you learn the fairly easy method of it..it becomes as easy as most of the major players..

there is very low recoil with these cats...and i find little if any difference between the 9 & the .45..you may find the trigger a bit tight and long..an easy cure is a $5 "D" spring...or a get a pro to do a complete trigger job on it...LTT(http://www.langdontactical.com/index.shtml) will be getting the .45 to work on for me

another drawback is aftermarket parts..you can get mags for it direct from beretta (pricey)

you can get the gun in various configerations...SA/DA..DA only..and the beretta forum guys say it is easy to convert to a de-cocker only "G" mode

as far as looks its just personal attraction..some think the entire line is ugly..i would put the inox version with wood grips next to any & all

good luck
