I have a bunch of shotshells that are a red molded plastic and appear to be either 44Mag or 45 Colt. I can't find reference to them anywhere and I would like to find load data etc or sell them if I can't use them. Can anyone shed some light on these? Thanks.

It doesn't seem like this is the case. These are just the capsule only. They are pretty long so I'm thinking they may be for 45 but the guy who had them only had a 44Mag so its confusing. I'll have to try to take a pic and post it.

TC used to sell what they called a Hot Shot if I have the name right. It was for their Contender barrels with a short section of straight rifling to keep the shot from spinning once it left the barrel. I never saw one myself so I don't know what color they were, but I remember they were too long to work in anything but a single shot.

They're possibly the speer plastic bullet indoor practice rounds. Sounds like the rear casing, missing the black plastic bullet. They were primer powered, could be stopped by a suspended piece of carpet. The bullets could be re-used, but accuracy was so-so even at living room ranges.

I had some in .357 mag. Fun but as I said, not very accurate. Good practice for trigger control, sight alignment.

I had a .44 caliber, single shot, shotgun that is very old. It had a shell like that except where you have clear plastic it was a baked clay like substance that held the shot. I had shells for it too, but I lacked the nerve to ever shoot them. I gave it to one of my sons for an over the mantlepiece gun.

Well it looks like Griz got it. The picture was most helpful. They are definitely long ( 1 5/8" ). Since I have upwards of 100 or more and no single shot pistols I guess I"ll have to look at selling them. Bummer. Was hoping they would work in my Redhawk.

GP100Man, yes I don't doubt it. I've seen a lot of different ways of doing shotshells and it seems to be only limited to peoples imagination (and safety tolerance). I have to get some 44 shotshells that will work in a revolver so I may experiment a little myself.

Mutt, I have to check but I think my shotshell capsules are for 44mag but I need to verify that. Anyway the judge is a 45 Colt and I'm uncertain if shooting the 44mag shotshells out of it would work. If so I'd be happy to sell you some. I see you are near Seattle too so it would be cheap/easy to get some to you. Mail me if you are interested.
