Somehow I ended up on the enemy's e-mail list, but I find that it is useful to know what they are up to. Here's an e-mail they just sent out:

Subject: Fight with Us to Defend Our Nation's Gun Laws

Brady Gun Law Defense Fund [image]

Dear Paul,

I'm simply aghast!

In a 2-1 decision in Parker v. District of Columbia, right-wing activist
judges on a Federal Appeals Court recently overturned Washington D.C.'s
long-standing restrictions on handguns based on their twisted view of the
2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution while ignoring more than 60 years
of precedent -- a decision that endangers America's gun laws
coast-to-coast.

This case could land before the U.S. Supreme Court within the next 6
months and each month brings a tidal wave of work to fight this terrible
decision. Simply put: we need your support today!

Please click here to make a commitment of $5 or more per month. This
affordable amount will automatically be charged to your credit card each
month -- unless you decide to change or cancel your monthly commitment.

Your monthly gift will be a steady source of income that will help us:

* Convene well-recognized experts in constitutional law and history to
develop the most powerful arguments against the Parker ruling;
* Assemble a comprehensive library of books, treatises, articles, court
decisions and legal briefs refuting the "individual rights" view of
the Second Amendment and make this library available to lawyers
nationwide and on the Internet; and
* Launch a major public education campaign including full-page ads in
major newspapers and a new Brady Gun Law Defense Fund website. We'll
also organize lawyers and law professors to write newspaper op-eds and
letters to the editor to create a constant drumbeat of criticism of
this decision.

This battle -- to its very core -- is the most important battle we have
ever waged. We need your help today -- your monthly support -- to build a
strong Brady Gun Law Defense Fund to save America's gun laws.

This fight is so critical to the safety and sanity of our nation
that an anonymous donor has extended his challenge and
will match dollar for dollar all monthly gifts
to our Brady Gun Law Defense Fund.

So your $5 monthly gift is worth $10, your $25 monthly gift is worth
$50!

We must prepare for the fight of our lives. Everything we have worked for
in the past and everything we're currently working on could be destroyed
by the heinous ruling of right-wing activist judges who choose to ignore
more than 60 years of precedent in order to help the gun lobby accomplish
in the courts what they've been unable to accomplish in Congress.

Please respond today. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Sarah's Signature (100x43)
Sarah Brady, Chair
Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence

I got that as well. I responded:
Sarah,
I agree! this is the most important fight over guns I'll probably see in my lifetime.
I'll make sure to make my 5$ monthly donation to the NRA.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

if you participated in the Brady centers legislative poll, thats how you ended up on their mailing list. I've been responding to all of them as if I thought they were a pro-gun group.:p

Heh heh. She wants their money to:

* Assemble a comprehensive library of books, treatises, articles, court
decisions and legal briefs refuting the "individual rights" view of
the Second Amendment and make this library available to lawyers
nationwide and on the Internet; and

Dude, it's called Google......and it's free

Come on George, we all know it's you. This is kinda silly.

Hmm..... someone needs to write back and tell her:

-Abraham Lincoln ignored 87 years of precedent when he signed the Emancipation Proclamation...

-Congress ignored 144 years of precedent when they recognized a woman's right to vote...

-SCOTUS ignored 197 years of precedent when they forced legal abortion on the country...

-the federal government ignored 218 of precedent when they mandated low-flow toilets throughout the entire U.S....

....so I'm not really seeing where the precedent argument means anything.

What is Brady up to?....

Simply another round of fleecing the sheep. Gotta keep the payroll coming in...

I sent a reply to mine too, dang, I shoulda cut and pasted my reply.

Well, it was something about saving the original gun law the 2A! You get the picture.

You want your very own Brady email? Just got to bradycampaign.org and fill out one of their biased surveys and let the games begin.

I'll one up you with this howler from "The Gun Guys":

One of our nation's most serious terrorist threats is legally available in gun stores all over the country.

California has already banned the .50 caliber sniper rifle. Hawaii and New Jersey have proposed and are working on legislation to do it. And yesterday, the fight to ban these rifles in Illinois heated up as well. American citizens want them out of our country for good, and it's long past time legislators started listening.

Even the gun's manufacturer's admit that their case is weak on this one-- this is a firearm that is nearly five feet long, with a bullet that is five inches long and can be fired from up to two miles away. This gun can shoot through steel, and can threaten nuclear plants and take down small planes on takeoff and landing. It represents a serious, credible threat to our nation's security.

And yet, it's still legally in most of the United States. Anyone with an ID and the cash (and you're kidding yourself if you think a terrorist can't get those in America today) can buy and use this firearm. We don't need to wait for it to happen before we realize that we can't have this weapon on store shelves.

Even if the gun did have a legitimate use (and it doesn't), no use is worth the threat this firearm presents to the rest of the country. Even if this gun did have a purpose beyond letting gun guys get their kicks by blowing away prairie dogs or shooting propane tanks, no legitimate purpose would be worth it.

This is a firearm that has already been used against our troops in Iraq and elsewhere. Will we allow this weapon to continue to be sold until it's used to terrorize our citizens closer to home?

Good grief. Now it's two miles away (actually, in their wording, you could fire it from a million miles away, since they don't bother to mention "away from what?"

It can shoot through steel too  and has a five inch long bullet (must be the new 2000gn Lapuas or something) and can "threaten" nuke plants.

I think these idiots should demonstrate personally for us how they can use one of these terror rifles to shoot down a moving airplane.

Keal was saying
>if you participated in the Brady centers

Exactly. I've been getting their crap emails too, despite the fact that I disagreed strongly with their poll statements.
The disgusting thing is that I'm sure we're all being counted as their supporters whenever they want to make a claim about the size of their group. I guess it doesn't really make much difference though, because they'd simply lie anyway, like they do about everything else.

bumm,
the last few I asked to be unsubscribed...that was obviously ignored.
so what the heck; might as well have fun with them. :)

I asked for the statement on Jim Webb's gun...

I'd like to hear it. And lets play some old Columbine clips while they are talking about Senator Webb and his gun. They would do it if he was a Republican.

Guy guys said:

So every type of weapon used against our troops should be banned? Don't you think our troops also have some of these? C'mon gun gobs, be realistic, it's a war!

Kael, I asked a couple of times to be taken off their list too, with very strongly worded emails telling them just what I thought of their honesty and tactics with LOTS OF CAPITOL LETTERS!!! They'd obviously rather count me as a member than take me off their list. :)
