I don't remember seeing this here, and a quick search did not turn it up...its a couple of weeks old.

This really is a tragic story, but it's definitely not something that would qualify as an "accident". This was not careless. It was not reckless. I don't even think stupid covers it.

No matter how hard I try, I cannot imagine any set of circumstances where this would sound like a good ideal.
 
I'd say that if you are stupid enough to use a bullet to make a hole in the wall you are probably stupid enough to not make sure there is no one the other side
 
Dang! I used to Install satellite systems. Why didn't I think of that?
I think I would have used .45 acp. Bigger hole and might not reach the neighbors.
 
Should have set up a bullet trap.

Goes to show you that if you want to drill holes in walls, put a proper bullet backstop on the far side. In this case, a 4x4 over the area of exit would have saved the day.
