Have just sent out our December E-Newsletter (Merry Christmas everyone), which highlights for our members the changes to the website during the previous month (and other items of interest of course).

Wanted to note the 2nd item, which links to THR as well as thanks eliphalet for the contribution. Your constructive comments were very appreciated and definitely a "cut above."

Heh. Yeah, you can get some entertaining results out of the Guide. Or any research tool. Of course, that's because you are playing with the "Garbage In, Garbage Out" aspect of research tools. If you tell a research tool to return ridiculous results, it usually does!

If you set the Guide appropriately for your action, it will not return the .577 for a .22 rechambering. Specifically, you are telling the Guide to allow bolt/extractor modifications *AND* to disregard case length. So, it will do EXACTLY as you tell it to and return ALL cartridges that are wider and longer. That's why you're getting the .577.

The default for the Guide is to NOT allow bolt/extractor modifications and to NOT disregard case length, so you actively chose those options. I don't know why one might do that, except perhaps to be able to report some humorous results for this thread, but based on what you told the Guide to do, it is 100% correct.

If you want more reasonable results, don't choose such wide-ranging search criteria.
