Big game hunting shows are usually based around whitetail and elk hunting, but with the constantly rising hunting prices, a lot more people that I have run across are getting into hunting hogs here in Texas.

I have seen many different hog hunts on tv, but there is never any discussion about what makes a trophy or mountable hog. So what is the basic qualities of a mountable/trophy hog? Please post pics.

Well, I've seen everything from very wild russian lookin' boars mounted to what look like garden variety durocs. LOL One thing that seems to be the deal, the "trophies" will have large tusks. Me, I just shoot 'em for meat and prefer the little ones to the big PITA to butcher ones. They eat better, too. Never shot or stuck a hog I wanted to waste money on mounting, but I do got a javelina on the wall with 3" tusks, which is pretty impressive for a javelina. That's not a hog, though, but it's a cool mount.

Difficult to explain....but you'll know it when you savor the aroma. (mmmmm....mmmmm)

IF I ever get the opportunity to hunt hogs, better believe any one I get will be a trophy in my eyes . . .

Trophy hog? Hmm. There's "good eatin' size" and "Bigguns". Then you move on up to "Great big sucker!" size. Last, I guess, is "Gawddlemighty Dayyum!" where you need a front-end loader.

Some of them have impressive tusks, so I guess one of those might be considered a true trophy...

Many of the really large boars lose their tusks when they get big enough to be considered "Trophy Size".

It matters a damn. For me the story that accompanies the hunt is the important part. Having a large boar head mounted invites the imagination of any child around. Your ability to retell the story of the boar hunt is what will determine the "Trophy " status. It is just too much fun to watch the faces of the kids when they hear the story of the boar hunts.

My brother and I used to hunt them in Michigan.

Exactly. Last big boar i killed had both lower tusks broken off, apparently years ago.
