What defensive ammo do you use in your CZ Rami .40 that you believe is 100% reliable?

I have had no issues with FMJ Ball ammo for hundreds of rounds even with the gun dirty. However, I did have 2 failures to feed with Remington Golden Sabers HPJs. The rounds seem to get hung up on the feed ramp. I had to pull the slide back and release to chamber the rounds. This happened twice in a box of 25 this morning. I also noticed that manually removing the HP ammo from the magazine is a little more challenging than it is with my SIGs. Maybe it's the mag/ammo combo? I have not experienced this with any of my other guns..glock,sig, M&P.

Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated. I really want this little CZ to work as my primary carry gun.

Your feed ramp needs to get polished, you can do it yourself or take it to a gunsmith to have it done. Basically you take some 400+ grit paper (600 is what I would use) and rub it the direction the bullet moves up the feed ramp and test. Redo as required, shouldn't be that difficult.

If you still have a problem, then go see a gun smith. There are a couple of tricks they can do. I would advise being careful. You want to remove the burr, but not change the angle of the ramp. It is easy to overdo if you are not careful.

EDIT:

I did a quick internet scan and think that you might want to locate a quality gun smith and send the piece into him. CZ's make a great gun, my experience with them is that they are very tight and in this case it might be working to limit the reliability. Tight = Accuracy / Loose = reliability.

I am sort of surprised that you are having these problems after "hundreds" of rounds though. Usually problems will work themselves out (even metal burrs) if you give them enough rounds.

Thanks. Hundreds of rounds of cheap stuff FMJ and zero failures of any kind. About 350 rounds + the gun was used. I don't understand why the JHPs are hanging up and the other stuff isn't.

I bought the gun used and it comes with a 30 day warranty if there are any issues. I'm not sure if I should keep testing or just bring it back and let their smith look at it.

The gun fits my hand perfectly, almost like a small 1911. The size is perfect for carry. Hence why I don't want to give up on it immediately.

CTGunner;

Both Winchester and Hornady have recently released new generation personal defense ammo. I'd wait a bit, see if I couldn't locate some of each, & test both in your RAMI.

When I got my Rami it had feeding problems with every type of ammo,
including FMJ. I polished the feed ramp, and that helped some, but
didn't completely solve the problem.
I finally realized that the magazine lips (both mags) had burrs on the
inside edges of the lips. I took the mags apart and cut the burrs
down with fine grit sandpaper, then polished the edges with scotch-
brite. That solved my problem, no more FTFs.
BTW, I carry Hydra-Shoks in mine. They feed fine.:D

Thanks Walter. I inspected the feed ramp more closely tonight and it feels a bit rough to the touch. Thanks for the advice.

My Rami .40 did not like golden sabres. But I polished the feed ramp, and I squeezed the lips of the magazine inward a mm or two because the cartridges were leaving the magazine a bit early and getting caught facing upward in the barrel. Make sure the cartridge is parallel with the top of the magazine lips. Push carefully a round out of the magazine, and if the round points upward, you might try squeezing the lips of the magazine so that it forces the cartridge down a bit, until it moves in a parallel fashion right before it exits. Then polish the magazine lips. I also installed wolf magazine springs for compact CZs. Now it feeds everything reliably.
