What did you shoot today?

Beretta APX Centurion 9mm & Canik Mete SFX. A day of 9's &10's at 10yards is OK at 71.
<Had to correct the yardage. I've been doing a lot of 15 yarders recently with 1911's.>

Hi...
Made it back to the gun club Sunday for another shooting session.
Started off with two .357Magnum revolvers that I didn't shoot last weekend...my S&W 686 Silhouette Model and my Dan Wesson.
Twenty rounds each...speed drills at 7 and 15 yds are a bit challenging with big heavy 8-3/8" barrelled revolvers. Speed drills is a bit of a misnomer but at least the accuracy was excellent.
Switched over to some 1911s in .45ACP and fired two or three magazines each in 7 and 15yd speed drills from my Springfield Armory full size, my Colt Combat Commander, my Rock Island full size and my son's Para Ordnance. Did very well speed wise but did miss one steel plate at 15yds with the Rock Island...my fault, I just rushed the shot.
Then I ran the same drills with a couple magazines through my S&W M&P 40. That went well at 7yd but the light conditions made it difficult to see the laser at 15yds on some of the plates, so I had a few misses there.

It was then time to transition to the .41Magnum revolvers, so I ran 20 rounds each through both of my Blackhawks, my Model 57 and my Dan Wesson. Speed drills at 7yds with the Model 57 were fast and accurate, a little slower with the Dan Wesson and considerably slower with the BlackHawks. Accuracy was 100% with all four revolvers.
Then I got out the .44Magnum revolvers and ran the same drills with my Model 29, Dan Wesson, two Super Blackhawks and two Virginian Dragoons. Best speed drill was with the Dan Wesson...even though it is a big heavy gun the 6" barrel makes it better for the speed drills than the long barrelled Model29, SBHs and the Dragoons. Accuracy was still excellent sll through the .44s with a couple of misses with my blued Dragoon at 15yds. I accept total responsibility for those...operator error.
I ran about ten rounds through my Marlin .44Magnum lever action. No misses at 25yds but I did miss a couple of plates at 15 yds...again simple operator error. Trying to shoot too fast.

I did spend about ten rounds with each of the aforementioned revolvers shooting rocks on the berm behind the 25yd line after the more serious defensive speed shooting drills. A little harmless fun turning rocks about the size of my hand into pebbles. I meant to bring along some empty plastic bottles and clay birds to vary the targets but I forgot to put them in the truck.

My son shot pretty much the same guns and several other .45ACP pistols of his.
Between us we managed to fill two large Folger coffee cans with empty brass, combined with the two cans we filled with empty brass last weekend, I have a lot of brass to separate, tumble and process this week. Good thing I am retired and have lots of free time.

Sterling 25 ACP, Taurus 94, Taurus PT92, Taurus G2C, Ruger SP101, Ruger GP100 Match Champion, Ruger LCP Custom, S&W 638, CZ P09, Mossberg 500 410ga.
Got some cleaning to do.

My "new" M38 Husqvarna Swede Mauser - hits 6 in high and 2 in right @ 100 yds. Need to shoot against my Oberndorf M96/38 and my Carl Gustav M96 to figure out if this is "good". Sorry, no pics. Forgot to bring iPad w/ camera; also forgot ballistics chart so SWAGed 200 yds and only hit 12 in steel 2 out of 5 shots. Not too thrilled with that result. Berm too wet to reveal where it was hitting.

Haven't shot 22 WMR in a long time so took my Savage B22 to the rifle range today to ding the 100 yd rimfire targets. Ironically, while I usually take a milsurp to this range, today I didn't, but one other guy showed up with an Enfield No. 2 Mk I and another guy showed up with a Swiss Schmidt-Rubin 1911. Typical for my timing. We had some good conversations, anyway.

Shot some ladder loads in the new Savage 223 barrel. First reshot a couple 62gr loads I had shot the ladder on a few days ago Both look like they work well and now will have to load in-between. Then shot four loads of 69gr Noslers the beginning load (22.5) was very nice. 23.4 was the last rounds and they were getting better and still have 23.8,24.0 and 24.3 to shoot. Last I shot 3 round ladder of 68gr Hornady Match. Of 5 loads only the last load showed any promise. Still have 69gr Sierra MK to load.

Finally got to shoot my new to me purchase from Monday. 6 inch Colt Anaconda.

Decided to go to our range at the hunting shack. No one there, of course. Nice! The road was flooded earlier this week, closed as posted by the USFS, "dam"n beavers and rapid snow melt.

Made it, culverts cleared.

Made it a "Snake" day. 6 inch Python wanted to play too.
Had these rookie mistakes to iron out... 357

It worked, kinda...Will use a hotter charge next round.

Anyways, shooting the Anaconda for the first time met my expectations.:)

First six shots swung my steel targets.6 for 6. 15 yards at a 4 X 5 inch target...I was happy! Single action, surprisingly light trigger. Double action became predictable.

I'll show you what I was hitting.

Slapped this together about 7 years ago, "swingers weigh just over 7 pounds,a healthy charge in a .44 Rem. Mag. will spin them.
Have yet to try my 460 S&W on them.

Have not had a fun day but a couple since deer season.
Must not have shot there since there was snow on the ground as the targets are usually painted white.

Loads for the Python were 125 grain HP pushed by a charge of IMR4227 and a mixture of factory loads I wanted to get rid of. Plus my cast 158 grainers over 2400 ~ 1135 fps.
I thought I despised anything other than a 158 grain bullet for a 357, but I'll tell you what. Those 125's are fun!
Will make a good load for my wife.

The Anaconda performed well with my cast 240 grains and Nosler 240 grain JHP. Both over a charge of 2400.

It was a good afternoon with mild temps and playing with my toys.
I mean tools.
Nah, revolvers, who am I kidding.:)

The kid and I shot about 400 rounds of .22LR through his MKIV and LCPII I picked up a while back. I haven't shot it much since it resides in a kitchen cabinet at the mother-in-law's.

Function of the LCPII was perfect with Aguila Super Extra and CCI Velocitors. Accuracy at 15 yards is ok. 25 and 40 is kinda sketchy.

12 more rounds of 240 grain Nosler JHP over a stout load of 2400 through my "new" Anaconda after cleaning the range this morning. :)
Not many red-nosed* shooters this weekend as it was pretty clean.

*clowns and drunks

Seventy five rounds of Xtreme 158gr RNFP over 6.4 grains HP-38 in 357 cases through 4" S&W Model 28-2 "Highway Patrolman." It was the third range trip with the "new" N frame. Very smooth and accurate old revolver.

617 with Altamont Grips.jpg

Shot my 617 today with some different ammo. The point of the exercise was to see how many rounds I could shoot before the cylinders got so dirty that the cases wouldn't eject.

I first shot 100 rounds of CCI SV 40 grain ammo. Wow, I'm impressed. I kept every shot inside the 4 inch X ring of a Bianchi target. I was only shooting 15 yards but I'm happy about that.

After the 100 rounds I had no trouble ejecting the cases.

I then tried 100 rounds of CCI Blazer. Big difference. The cases wouldn't easily extract after 20 rounds. I really had to slam the ejector rod to get them out or push it against the bench so that the cases would fall.

Accuracy was just as good with the Blazers but I won't be shooting them in my revolver for matches. Still cheaper to shoot then most other brands so they become practice ammo.

Fun day at the range. Started with the 10-22 Sporter on steel resetting target using Aquila super extra to dirty up the gun.

Put that aside to sight in a new 1x prism optic with the Colt CR. Got it zeroed at 50yds with factory Federal ammo, then tested 50 rounds of 55g Hornady fmj loaded with 22.5 g of tactical rifle (a new powder for me). Shot reasonable groups out to 100 yds, will continue to develop this load. Shot another 50 rounds 62g/22g IMR 4064 which so far is my most accurate load.

Had brought along my Marlin 30/30 since I haven’t fired it for a while, nice tight group at 100 yds with a box of factory REM 170g Core Lokt from the bench, sitting.

Went back to the 10-22 and 200 rounds of Norma Tac-22 at 50 yds on the bench shooting the centers out of paper.

Finished the day with my S&W 5904 using hand loads 5g of Bullseye, 115 jhp

Four hours all in, had a relaxing day and did okay for a old guy, that 10-22 never fails to put a smile on my face

Managed to sneak away for an hour or so, hit the range and shoot some .22's at 50 and 100, in a 10-15 mph headwind. Wasn't pretty but sure was fun.

Shot the Win. 52B
Rem 513T
T/C 22 Classic (best 10 shot groups of the day)
T/C 22 Classic Benchmark
