Patience and stillness are paramount...never underestimate the eyes of those critters.

A scratch slate is probably the most common with a diaphram 2nd.

Any camo that matches your terrain should work....being still is the most important thing. That can not be overstated.

Boots....I wear snake boots, but I don't find the type all that important.

3" shells...buy a turkey load.

Gun sight...I'd like a red dot or 2X; but I have the standard bead.

Season...see you state wildlife and game website.

Other considerations....decoys can be very helpful (not only using the social strata of turkeys, but also taking the eyes off you. Be patient...only call for a 15 seconds to a minute or so. Then wait for up to half an hour being very still.

I'll be honest with you. I hate turkey hunting; but I love eating wild turkey. I have a hard time sitting still for so long. They have much better eyes than deer (often 30 or so at a time - 15 pair.)

Camo is absolutely essential. Camo everything. There are alot of camo's available. A good box call is best for a beginner, but remember that you gotta practice first. Us 3" shells in your Maverick, load for Turkey. Many such loads are available. Save your money for sights and take your gun to the range and learn to shoot with what you've got. When hunting for Turkey, you have to be absolutely still and absolutely quiet.

"...dont have a job..." Getting one would be a start. Shooting and hunting isn't a cheap thing to do.
Gentlemen, Pitbull is pulling our collective legs.

One more thing

I didn't mention in my earlier post that you will need to change the choke tube on your 88. You can pick up a choke for it at many places. A "Turkey" or "Extra Full" would do nicely. Choke tubes fit for Mossberg will fit your Maverick.

I tend to agree, but I checked the profile and it shows that pitbull is 17 and probably a student.
