What do you call this rifle part?

Hello... I have a small company that manufactures wood Carving Duplicators, and I have been marketing one version for the carving of duplicate gunstocks and pistol grips. Recently, I agreed to carve a piece of an M-1 stock for a fellow so he can see the result, but I am unsure what to call this piece: It is the wood upper piece that sits on TOP of the barrel, about 20 inches in length. I will be taking pictures to add to my internet listing, but I would certainly like to call it by the correct name. Can anyone help me? Thanks, Lee Davis
