What do you consider essential to gun ownership?

Without primers, questions of (most) gun ownership are purely theoretical

Things I'm thinking about are gun lock, sling, snap caps, bipod, cleaning kit, vise, range bags. Anything else you think are necessities?

I wouldn't call any of these essential apart from cleaning tools (a one piece quality cleaning rod is the best). Most ranges have stands and bags. I'd suggest:

--targets
--screwdriver (sized for your particular firearm)
--hearing and eye protection
--Monocular, range finder or binos for seeing what you're hitting.
--Notepad and pen for keeping track of results

...

Honestly, "having a solid base", as in taking a 1 or 2 day Gun, basic's, safety and handling-101 course for one's weapon a/o self.

It will cover most everything mentioned above (if you ask questions if not talked about) and will "last a lifetime"..

Your safety comes first and all others around you will benefit, by example, as well.

Luck,

Ls
