What do you do when someone touches your CCW?

Back in the mid 80's I saw an advert in a survivalist newsletter
for a fake colostomy bag with a holster compartment.

I wonder if they still market it in the states without concealed carry reform?

as for the big ol' hugs...

go low! go low!

better yet, if you're bigger than them, go low with your right arm, high with the left... it make people twist themselves a bit keeping them further away from the ccw... you should be bigger for this or else their right arm will reach all the way around and hit the ccw. i have alot of small female friends, and this works well.

hell my wife has gone a whole night not noticing... even though she brushed it two or three times while wating in line at the movie theater.

I havn't been made yet.But if I do I have an excuse already ready...insulin pump....should shut them up pretty quick.
A friend did try to grab it once like the above poster said.An elbow to the center of the chest changed his mind..........then I said"you dork I'm not even carrying."(of course I was)He still occaisonally asks if I'm carrying, and I always say"you never know".
I've learned that people are pretty oblivious most of the time.My daughter doesn't even know I carry.(she's 15,blond and in her own little world.)

You know, I think this would only be a concern if “illegally†carrying. With state permission, I don’t think I would worry about it.

G.Fink- I'd agree with you except for one little problem; since CCWs are so rare here in the people's paradise of California, if someone sees/feels my firearm or if I print really bad, the person that makes me isn't going to think 'lawfully armed citizen'; they're going to think 'AAAAAAHHH SCARY BAD GUY WITH GUN.... Call the cops!'

For the majority of the populace of California, the concept of an individual taking personal responsibility for their own self-defence is an alien concept.

If she was tapping him, to get his attention, if she really wanted the time, wouldn't the normal place to be on the shoulder? Or even an "Excuse me, excuse me, do you have the time?"
Okay slick, when you get 95 years old, see if you can raise your hands up above your chest to tap someone (probably taller than you) on the shoulder. My grandmother is 93 and she can't reach my shoulder and I'm only 5'9". I'm sure the woman meant no harm but I can only go off what I read here.

This is a funny thread :D

I sure love pocket carry :D

Never had a problem myself while carrying the Browning Hi-Power or Beretta 92, but then I usually didn't carry them. BHP is sure easy to carry IWB though! Even with a semi-tight shirt, it doesn't really print.

IF somebody bumps into you and it is still counseled and they make a big deal about it and call the cops or whomever...Can you get in trouble..I could understand it its hot hidden or something but if they touch you and feel it..What can happen to you..?

jsalcedo, I like your taste in pistols! I'm a fan of the Makarov and the 1911, and I carry a Makarov. I don't have a 1911 of my own, but I get to shoot my Dad's every now and then...

Nobody has yet to spot my Mak, but then again I've only been carrying for a couple months now. I had a friend ask me once if I was carrying, and I was a bit concerned. I asked what gave him the idea that I had a gun, and he pointed to a buldge in my pocket. It was my leatherman, I took it out of my pocket and showed it to him, and he stoped asking questions. He never noticed the Makarov just a few inches away...

I also carry a Makarov and a full-size 1911, and as far as I know - no one has ever noticed.

This is southwest Virginia, however - so no one probably cared if they did notice.

QuarterBore, you may well be right. I’m certainly not advocating careless or sloppy concealment, but if someone does inadvertently discover a permit holder’s sidearm, there shouldn’t be any reason for the permit holder to panic … thanks to that “get out of jail free†card in his wallet.

~G. Fink

Gordon,
The presence of an affirmative defense does not automatically mean you don't get hassled, cuffed and maybe more.

Yes, cordex, I know, but panic probably won’t help the situation either. That’s why I don’t understand the obsessive concern over someone discovering your weapon by touch when you’ve done everything else correctly. What do you have the permit for if not to avoid “misunderstandings†with law enforcement?

~G. Fink

You're right, of course, that panic is generally not the ideal solution.
But because an ignorant citizen may inadvertantly (or intentionally) cause undue excitement leading to discomfort and short-term legal troubles on your part, concern may well be warranted even if the carrier has done nothing wrong.

Theres gotta be something missing in this description, why would a little old lady make a grab at a carry gun that is concealed and if its concealed how did she know it was there. I am afraid from zadlaf's reply that he would have turned and double tapped her in the movie ticket line.

Hell no, nothing but slide lock .

Lets look at it this way. If somebody was trying to pickpocket you. How would you handle it? I am not saying she was trying to pickpocket Jsalcedo? It just that the waist is not an area you use to get somebody's attention. Alot of personal stuff is in that area, cell phone, pager, pda, etc... What about what is right below the waist, like your wallet or money?

How many people do you know poke other people they don't know to get their attention? We are talking about adults and not kids here either.

How about on the arm? Nah, you're right. Maybe she should have just kicked him on his legs.

Well from the original post she didnt tap or poke him in the waist, she grabbed his pistol, so a couple of rounds in the brisket might be justified. Of course it would be terrible with the kids screaming "you shot gramma" and you saying the old bat should have left my heater alone. In all honesty I try to keep aware of who is around me and wouldnt consider an old woman a threat, unless she looked like Mike Tyson in a wig.

Southerners should know about the family that loves to hug and touch you when they talk to you and pat you on the back etc....

My family was at my parents' house for something and my aunt who is usually very quiet just gives me a little "hand on the hip because she wants to pass" move. It was perfectly placed on the grip of my glock.

Knowing what everyone here says about people not knowing I was very surprised when she asked me what kind it was.

I learned that she used to shoot alot with her brother and knows a bit about guns.

I digress.... It is very hard for me with my big southern family to wear a gun at all. So I have adopted the philosophy that I do what I do and if I happen to offend anyone because of it....TOUGH DOOPY!

Got patted on the hip by a coworker once. I was working on a machine, and she wanted to get my attention. She realized what it was immediatly.

No problem though. Her husband CCWed also. :) In fact she felt better knowing that some folks there carried.

I've only been carrying for a few weeks now, so I'm still pretty self conscious. TX law says concealed means concealed: the gun cannot be visibly perceived to be a gun (a nondescript bulge is fine). When I'm out and about, I'm at all times aware of my gun's placement on my body, and whether or not a motion I make will expose it (bending over, for example). I have quickly learned which motions do this, and either avoid them, change my approach (e.g. squat or kneel rather than bend over), or unobtrusively restrict part of my shirt with a free hand to prevent revealing the weapon.

However, the only place I really have any concern is at work. I don't know if we have an anti-carry policy, and I don't want to ask. It's a small company, and they are either indifferent or haven't thought about it. I don't want to even raise the question with them. If they haven't said "no", it's totally legal. That said, I'm really close with everyone I work with - we live and let live, and get along like family. I trust them on many levels and if it ever came out, I would be calm and collected and secure in my legal right to carry.

My biggest liability is all the anti-government rhetoric that spews forth when I open my mouth :).

I believe that here in PA you could actually be cited for exposing your CCW in public.

Actually, if you expose your CCW in PA, then you're just open carrying.... Which is completely legal! I love this state!

A stranger touching me?

There?

I'd look 'em in the eye and calmly say, "I hope you're reaching for my tits. . ."

While thumb-cocking my snub .357!

It's never, never happened. I don't do crowds, given a choice; and when Susan and I do, our tactics have each of us keeping at least one eye on the other's back.
