What do you do with an unwanted gun?

What's an "unwanted" gun? Only if it was a RG..... Trade for ammo, a holster, hand on to it for a keepsake, or hang it over the fireplace.

I'll second the idea of stashing it with some ammo in the woods somewhere. (Maybe sealed in a large-diameter PVC pipe, or waterproofed in some other form)

I would keep it in an 'alternate location' for HD with a few extra rounds on one of those ammo holders what slips on the stock. Don't get rid of it, it's too valuable. Shoot and clean it once in awhile to keep it serviceable. If you are concerned about a dust build up in the bore while it is sitting, simply put a condum over the muzzle. No need to remove it in an emergency as it will come off all by itself should you need to point and fire very quickly. Need to ckeck once in a while for rust though. sundog

Get as many barrels as possible

If you make it versatile by getting barrels or barrel inserts, it may serve you quite well in a SHTF or survival scenario. Scrounging ammo of various types etc. I Imagine you could make a 37 mm with some ingenuity as well. That sounds like fun!

I thought about getting a .410 bbl for it and cutting that down and bobbing the stock, then registering it as an AOW, but sanity prevailed.

Thanks for the many suggestions. I've offered it to a Highroader in my local area for a reasonable price.

Dev, I just sent a pm, im definitly interested in your nef. I have been looking for some inexpensive single shots, as Im trying to demonstrate to a new shooting friend, that a single shot is a effective shooting tool, and is better than him having nothing but a baseball bat or harsh words. If I can convince him thats its a effective tool I might just give him a single shot for a dollar so he has at least one firearm in the house.

heh - there is no way i'd get rid of that gun =) Have a similair one...

"Pardner" Model SB1 - 20 Ga. Single shot Break open Shotgun
New England Firearms Co. INC.

The great thing about that gun - is unlike ALL my other guns - there is almost nothing that can go wrong in that one. As simple as you get. It was a hand me down from my dad since he was getting rid of his guns. Something about thier not being enough room where he's moving or something - i asked no questions.... just that he not sell them but instead give them to his loving son... rofl

Just don't know how to get rid of a gun that works every time i pull the trigger.. <grin>

J/Tharg!
