I 'll be going to my second caribou hunt sometime this year. I used a .308 before but never had the chance to try 7mm STW
.Iknow its just a nack down 300 H&H. Any comments on that? Pictures? Stories?
Actually I think it is an 8mm Rem Mag necked down.
PREMIUM bullets if you handload, PREMIUM ammo with PREMIUM bullets if you buy. Should you get a close shot you need a great bullet to withstand the impact velocity.
Other than bullet selection I think it is a great choice.
Awesome caliber!
Don't own one. My brother and three of my hunting/guide buddies own one. I opted for the 300 ultra at the last minute in lieu of the STW (Shooting Times Western). This is one flat shooting, powerful cartridge. I've seen the results on deer and elk and at the local gun club. It has more capability than most of us to shoot at extreme range. Kicks a little but compared to the 300 ultra it's a baby. They load 150 & 154 grain premium grade bullets with RL 22.
Yesterday i traded my 30-06 in a 7mm stw bullbarrel winchester M 70 in McMillan A 3 stock. I needed a target gun for long range. (300+ yards)
So there I have it. I dont think I will keep the stock, If STW performs good at the shooting range and if you guys think its a good hunting load than target shooting...
"...I used a .308 before..." For caribou? Where? A .270 is plenty for caribou. Usually shot at relatively close range depending on where you hunt and when.
