Hello. For protection, mine is loaded with Corbon 125-gr. DPX. My reasoning is that it is relatively easy to control in the SP101 I carry it in and has grouped quite well. Cases extract easily as well and it appears to be a consistent expander.
I run Speer Gold Dot "Short Barrel" 135 Grain JHP in my lightweight snubbie. They are much more manageable than regular loads since the pistol weighs under 1lb!
... I've got 8 rounds of CCI 158gr. JHP's on tap in my new Taurus.
Not the best stuff in the world, but I'm sure it'll get the job done.
They actually look like some pretty mean rounds.
Why: The place I bought it didn't have anything hot that was heavier than 110 gr., and The CCI was $10 for a box of 50. The range I went to didn't sell anything but reloads, and didn't allow "full-house" .357 Magnum to be fired on their range. :banghead: Full-house was anything other than their reloads.
My .357 is a "bush" gun-Ruger flattop I carry out at the ranch. I load 180 gr. CP gas check cast bullets to 1250 fps. Enough penetration to stop a nutso steer, in a handy package.
Winchester 125 Gr Super X JHP for when I'm outside or on the road, and some kind of .38 Sp 158 Gr JHP in my 66 for home defense. I don't know the name of these .38s. Sorry.
My 357 is not my primary self defense gun, that duty goes to my XD40. I primarily use my 357 on camping trips, protection from both 2 legged and 4 legged critters. I load 158 grain JSP's in mine. Its a taurus tracker 4" stainless.
