Hello everyone at THR.org, i have been a member for a short period and havent posted anything yet and i would just like to thank everyone for the collection of insight and tips i have gained from reading the posts on this website..

And now i will get to the point. I am heading out to the range tommrow, it is a small range out in the middle of no where with very little active members so it is pretty much like a private outdoor range and we have been getting bored lately putting holes in paper targets and have moved on to other interesting targets such as metal plates, bowling pins, empty propane tanks, etc etc etc etc. And even these are starting to get boring.

My question to any members willing to respond is what do you shoot when you go out shooting and is fun to watch or see the aftermath of being shot at, we usually use .233, 7.62x39, 9mm, .22lr, and the S&w .50.

Pick up a few cases of generic soda (Walmart, Sams Club, etc) in the can. Shake 'em up REAL good, stand back, aim, fire.

Fruit works well too.

223_AR,

First, Welcome to THR.

Now to the question. I say have a Fruit Shoot.

Fruit is fun to watch blow up and is biodegratible. Cantalope, Watermellon, Apples, Oranges, Tomatos...yes they are a fruit, smaller targets can include peaches, plumbs, apricots. Eggs are also fun to shoot. Cheap too.

And if you get hungry or want a snack you can eat your targets

anyone who hasnt tried tannerite is really missing out on some serious fun thats for sure.

I like to shoot at golfballs (9mm handgun and .22 rifle), wooden matches (with a scoped .22 Rifle), old crackers, stuff like that. Its always fun no matter what I'm shooting at so sometimes I just go for old fashioned targets.

Golf balls,2lt. bottels filled with water or even frozen ones.
Clay birds are fun to set up around the range as well.
Bowling pins when you can find a few work well, cars when
given the chance ;)!!

hollowpoints do wonders on a can of pork & beans. :D

I shoot in my yard so I get to shoot all kinds of fun stuff. I keep up with 47 rental properties and people leave canned goods in a lot of them when they move out (too heavy to move across country I guess). I've shot Rotel, stewed tomatos, pork & beans, clam chowder, etc.

I shoot old cars, coke bottles, old computers, we shot an old motorcycle helmet last time we shot.

A lot of people like to shoot at golf balls and fruits and stuff. Metal targets are fun cause they go "plink" after every shot. Charcoal is also fun to shoot at cause it spews dust of carbon stuff everywhere.

Sorry for the triple post, not sure what happened. I was asking because I work with a guy that lives in Joppa Illinois (Massac county) and he describes his gun range about like yours. I was thinking you may be close by.

Get some of those targets with the decks of cards and play rifle poker. It's a blast.

Watch out shooting canned food in the August heat...it'll stink if you get it too close to the firing line.

When I was in High School a buddy had a bright yellow 58 Chevy Belair 2 door with no engine or tranny, with a perfect body, he needed to get out of his folks place. We had room so let him bring it up to my place. We parked it out back and spent many a hour with 22's sitting on the patio and shooting that car. Hundreds if not thousands of times. Then called the junk yard guy and he came and got it for free.

I cringe every time I think of what that car would be worth today.

Ouch!!!! The last car we shot was a 90's model Chevy Cavalier :).

I'd cringe too thinking of shooting a piece of precious metal like that.
