I am with sm on this one.

I do not sweat the small differences in premium bullets. I want a gun I shoot very well, with a quality bullet that feeds 100% (If it is an auto) in my gun. I have carried numerous designs over the years. I shoot my carry ammo once in a while to keep it fresh, and buy whatever one I like and can find locally, and I like more than one.

My choices

I use one of the following is my guns: Winchester Ranger 147 Grain Bonded JHP, Remington Golden Saber 147 grain JHP, or Winchester 124 Grain +P Bonded JHP.

127gr Ranger T-series
124 or 147gr Gold Saber
124gr Gold Dot
115gr Carbon JHP
124gr Hydroshock
In that order.
All have ben solid performers in every test I have seen. Reliable rapid expansion even when fired through heavy clothing, and they all punch into the 12-18" penatration zone, most go right around 14.5" I give a slight edge to the T series and Gold Saber due to the added cutting effect they have.

I don't think there is one magic bullet.

Any JHP from a major manufacturer will do AFAIC.

I look for which one shoots more accurately in a particular gun, just about any 147 gr in Taurus, Beretta, or S&W, Silvertip or Gold dots in Glocks. etc

come on man, there's really no difference in any of them. A gut shot with any 9mm and Mr. Mean Guy is going down.

Buy what your gun likes and what makes you feel most invincible.

Me, I carry Ranger T-Series +P cause they feed well in my P250 subcompact and I think of them as 'T-Rex' bullets capable of dropping a charging T-Rex at 150yds with a toe shot.

Proof that advertising works on the stupid!
