At our club we have homemade bags filled with spent primers.

While I can see the economy of this, I'd have to hope that the bags don't become contaminated with the dust from these primers....the containers I keep them in become filled with dust, most of which I assume is fairly toxic.

I have always used sand, but this thread has given me some ideas. I am going to try lizard litter using shot bags. It'll be some lighter.

I have a source of fine gravel (glacial leavings) about the size of aquarium gravel and it packs/works well.

I tried rice but did not like the stability. I've gone to heavy sand in my bags.

But I never have to hand carry them far.
