some say that charter arms weapons are just gimmicks to have based on durability issues. Others say anything Taurus is a gimmick to avoid. SO i have to ask this question.

What is a better choice for active use?

charter pug with the 4 inch barrel in 44 special or the taurus judge?

Better?

"Active use" doing what?

Shooting snakes?

Hunting?

Target practice?

Defending your car or home?

Without having any actual context, and thinking with the most general case of self defense, and choosing only between those two guns, I'd go for the Pug in .44 special.

With a 4-inch barrel, it probably doesn't offer a lot of CCW options, but as far as delivering a chunk of lead somewhere near where you want it to go, and doing that at ranges out to maybe 30 yards, I'd say a 4-inch .44 special will do that better.

That's just me, though.

Ditto Arfin's questions.

That said, if you want a good revolver that you will shoot a bunch and trust for defense, just get a Smith or Ruger.

I don't know how good various new Tauri and Charters might or might not be. And I'm not interested in blowing a bunch of cash to find out.

The Judge is a snake gun IMO. The Taurus revolvers I checked out when I was last looking for a new gun had very poor triggers.

Are the new Charters +P rated?

I don't think +P is all that big of a deal, but it's sure a lot easier to find good defensive ammo if +P is an option.

Buth are great firarms. You would be well served with both. Don't listen to people's BS. I own a Taurus model 66 .357, Charter arms .38 spc and a Smith and Wesson model 19 .357. I have never had a problem with any of the guns. I've actually been contemplating getting the .44 spc.

Between those two choices I would opt for the charter arms. My Father in Law has an undercover .38 special snubnose that shoots great. You can find a S&W used for the same price. Just curious are you dead set on 44 special? There are a lot of options, the 4 inch barrel or the judge is not concealed easily. Are you looking for a carry in the country plinking and protection revolver? Reason I asked is 45 colt is easier to find ammo than 44 special. We were hunting dove and my buddy let loose with a shot with his 870 shotgun into the ground. I was ragging him about poor shooting skills until I walked over and saw the six foot rattlesnake he shot that was a foot away from him in the cactus!!

Qulaity costs. If you require a firearm for long-term use and for purposes where reliability is paramount, don't sacrifice those attributes just to save a few dollars. For the occasional plinker, maybe but for anything more...
Were the CA an older one, perhaps but the current ones...neither that or a Taurus would excite me. Just WAY too many stories of issues with them (Taurus) Far fewer A grades then D's or F's.
