What Glock for carry in a warm climate?

And I mean warm. I live in South Florida and I've had a CCW license since 1990. Although I own several autoloaders, my carry gun has been a S&W 60 (a short bbl revolver, in 38 Special, of course ). Given the climate, even my Sig P225 is a bit too big for comfort and my P7M8 too heavy (and too precious) for carrying around on a daily basis. Many years ago, I owned a G17 and a G30, but eventually sold them. I never considered them for carry -- too big and the square slide kept cutting into my hip uncomfortably (that was before the newer holsters). I don't own any Glock at present.

Now to my question. With the new holsters around, would it be a good option to get something like a G19 or G36 for carry? I've read mixed reviews of the G36 (too small for the .45 load) and excellent ones for the G19. Any insightful experienced opinions on these Glock models out there?

I've happily and easily carried a Glock 26 (the smallest 9mm model) for years, though admittedly not in a hot climate. It gets warmish & muggy here for a few weeks in the summers, so I've often worn it under shorts & a slightly oversized tee shirt.

But if you weren't happy carrying a Glock before, I don't know why you would be happy doing so again. Even the smallest Glocks are still Glock-shaped, with the squarish sides you complained about.

Thanks Pax. I was hoping, as I mentioned, that some of the newer holsters designed for the Glock, would correct this problem. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that noticed that sharp jab!

Get a CompTac C-TAC holster. This holster makes my G20 and full-size 1911s disappear with just an untucked t-shirt. Fantastic holster.

Of the Glocks you have mentioned, my pick would be the G19. Mine has been flawless in nearly 10 years of use.

Everyone is different....body shapes, the particular handgun (Glock, in this case), and the particular holster design - if a holster is used - will determine your comfort level. I've carried a G26 for years (IWB without a holster most of the time) and it's been very comfortable.

for me, its gonna be a G26. I'm actually planning on training extra hard with it so it can simply be my 'always with me' piece.

I also live in south florida, and I have 3 carry guns. I carry my G30 in a Sparks IWB pretty easily, and my G22 in a DeSantis pancake holster almost as well(although I have to wear a light button down shirt to hide it well.)

Lately I have taken to carrying a SA Ultra Compact in a galco concealable belt holster. It hides perfectly with just shorts and a loose fitting t-shirt.

Of the 3 I think I prefer the 1911 for carry especially when the needle is closer to 100 degrees than not.

the concealable is arguably the most comfortable to wear all day holster I have ever tried.

I have to concur. The G36 I had, the slimmest of the bunch, I think, was still a bit blocky for me to carry IWB. But it carried well in an ankle holster, and under an untucked hawaiian shirt.

But I ended up switching to a Kahr P9 for really hot weather carry... it seems to conceal anywhere. That's worked well.

I'm currently trying out a cut-down BHP, still 9mm, but I really like the single action.

I am tremendously happy with my G27 in a Galco Ankle "Glove" Holster or Milt Sparks Versa-Max 2 - Have a Eagle Defender coming from K & D Holsters next week - heard great things about those holsters as well!

Ditto for Glock 27. I use a Threat Solutions UCR for IWB and a Haugen Deep Cover for OWB. For colder months I just switch from Glock 27 to Glock 23 in the same UCR holster.

I recently acquired a Glock 27 after not having one for several years. The 27 in a "Skeleton" belt-slide holster under an untucked shirt or as a boot gun seems a great choice right now. If desired a 22 or 23 could be substituted in the belt-slide with no other adjustments (except perhaps to cover garment). And a 23 or even 22 magazine could be carried as a higher capacity reload. Seems like a great choice when reasonable firepower in a small and light package is called for.

I live in San Antonio and it has been 100 degreeish this week. I had a 26, 27 and 19. I've settled on the 19 as a belt gun. I found that with a big floppy shirt and an IWB, the 19 was covered as well as the 26.

However, because of the heat and if I can't wear a cover shirt - I carry either a 642 or a Kahr PM9 in a pocket holster. I can wear casual or hiking pants or shorts big enought to accomodate them comfortably.

Thus, I found that with a cover shirt - the 19 size worked for me.
