what is the point of a glock 26?

I've been pocket carrying the G26 everyday for almost 10 years now. Yes, you need pants with big pockets. Stick your hands inside the pockets and see how wide you can open your hand. That'll tell you a lot before you even hit the dressing room. You also need a decent pocket holster. The DeSantis Superfly is my preferred holster. To top it all off, you'll want a real deal gun belt to support the weight of the gun. if you use an off-the-rack belt from a department store, you'll likely find your pants drooping on one side, which will make it much more obvious to onlookers.

I think the G26 with the 10-round flush mag sucks for an IWB gun. There isn't enough grip to get a good grab on it when drawing from an IWB holster, and if you're gonna use the G19 or G17 mags, you might as well have the added benefits of a continuous one-piece grip and a longer sight radius to boot. In fact, I bought a G19 once I came to that realization.

Still, I agree with others that the G26 is the best sub-compact 9mm on the market. It has the perfect blend of reliability, shootability and versatility that every other maker has been trying to upstage since 1994. Other guns come close, but all of them are too long in the grip, which is a huge hindrance for pocket carry.

Agreed. At my age ounces may as well be pounds, the 26 works better for me than the 19 and I shoot it just as well.

GAP Floorplates are the best thing you can do to your G26 for IWB carry. If I'm carrying light IWB or in the pocket, I use the GAP plates. If I'm carrying with a couple layers, I just use a Pierce +0 pinky extension, or carry a bigger gun. The G26 with the GAP or +0 extension is still lighter and easier-to-conceal than the G19. My 19 hardly get's any use these days.

Precisely.

Floorplates that extend outwards tend to jab my support hand which makes them a non-starter. In fact, I've gone out of my way and spent money removing those types of floorplates from my HKs for that very same reason.

For me, the G26 works as a pocket gun. To that end, it makes no sense to carry a pocket gun IWB; you might as well carry more gun.

I'm trying as hard as I can to get the GAP to poke my support hand in any manner whatsoever, and it doesn't even contact my support hand. It being on the second finger instead of the bottom makes it much different than an HK's awful extension.

But to each his own. I use my pockets, so filling one with a gun is rarely an option. The 26 works great in IWB for me, better than my 19.

Sounds like your booger hooks are thicker than mine. :D

I sold my G26 when I got a Kahr PM9 (later a MK9), and I bought a G19 (later a G23) for house duty and range enjoyment. Please don't anyone tell me how much easier it is to conceal a G26 than a PM9. Most of the time I pocket carried and I switched to a revolver. I still have the G19; mainly because I've got a threaded .22 conversion kit for it, and because Glock is the McDonald's of guns.

The G26 is kind of brick-like for a concealed carry gun, even if it's a relatively small and very reliable brick. There are several other options available nowadays. If I chose to go with another sub-compact Glock it would be the G27. If I was going back to a centerfire semi-auto for everyday concealed carry it wouldn't be a Glock; they don't fit my wardrobe or lifestyle. If I still lived up north and wore hoodies 3/4 of the year, I might change my mind.

I carry G26 in pocket with hard holster, 80% of my pants work just fine. Otherwise, I end up with a IWB holster and cover shirt. IWB is not as comfortable for me. The G19 would push the size too large and not enough better in the shooting department. For range shooting I like by G17. Tried Kahr and Keltec P11, but like the G26 better. Each person is going to like something different, and I will probably someday change my preferences at some point.

Here I go, about to upset some Glock fans... The point of the Glock 26 was to serve as an awesome carry gun option. It was the best thing around (provided you didn't like revolvers) until the Smith and Wesson Shield came along.
Was your recalled?

The Shield is still longer in the grip, which, for me anyway, pokes through my shirt. The G26 doesn't.

Whether or not the Shield is a better carry gun depends on your body type. For me, it is not.

Not directly comparable.

The Shield is a half size smaller, with the resulting differences being plainly obvious to anybody familiar with the two pistols.

I traded my Shield for my G33. The size difference was negligible to me. The Shield was a nice enough gun but for what I was giving up in size I'd rather have in capacity and shoot ability.

There is a thread going right now in Glocktalk about how the G26 is the best carry ever. If everyone was the same they would only make one gun.

What others are you referring to?

Follow up question: How much do they cost, and how much do their magazines cost?
Even thinner. Ruger LCP etc.
Point is 26mm is still thick compared to 20mm. But it is a world of difference between 30mm. I so wanted to buy a G26 for carry, but I'm not going to as I'm rather going to get a Ruger LC9. Despite the fact that the G26 is more accurate, has more rounds, etc etc. It's a compromise I'm willing to take. And I bet the LC9 will be a joy to carry in a ankle holster. That will mean that I will carry it more regularly. I've seen gunfights won with smaller guns shooting less powerfull bullets. The G26 is superior, but just to thick for me.

I prefer the wider grip - it fits my hands better. I have a few Glocks (17L, 19, 26, 34, 21, 21sf, 23 (x2), 30, 30sf, 36) and carry the 26 most often. I have no problem drawing it from a Supertuck, and don't need to readjust it to sit, walk, drive, or ride my motorcycle. I CAN carry any of them, a Shield, or a full-size 1911 for that matter, but the G26 works best for me. I carry a stock mag in it to keep it short, and shoot it fast and well with my pinkie just hangin' out under the base of the mag.

I don't shoot the Shield nearly as accurately nor as fast. I don't conceal the G19 as well (BTW, I'm only 6'3", 285lbs) and the G19 shows more. If I don't care about printing, I'll carry the G30.

Note that I'm in the land of 10+1 limits. If I could stuff a G19 full, I'd carry a G23!

I started with a G19 in a pancake style holster, all my ccw holsters are leather pancakes, and picked up a G26. Carried the 26 for awhile and went back to the 19. On my belt right now, a Sig P229 in .40. Getting ready for winter. I carry and shoot all three, one at a time. Shot a friends M&P in .40 and liked it a lot but will not buy one as I have too many now. If someone gave me one plus a HK and a Walther, I'd be real happy. Would probably buy more holsters and add them into the rotation. My G26 is almost as accurate as the my Sig. A lot of people shoot them very well. If I could only have one it wouldn't be the 26, if I could only have three, the 26 would be one of them.

I am 6'2" and weigh 240lbs. I can EASILY pocket carry a sub-compact Glock. I pocket carry in a Remora my Glock 27 as well as ankle carry in a Galco ankle rig. I can conceal my Glock 19 OWB under a t-shirt, but sometimes the 27 is easier to carry/conceal. Heck, I can conceal a Glock 21SF IWB in shorts and a t-shirt, but that's not the point. The point of the 26/27/33 is it works really well for lots of folks. Not just knuckle draggers like me. ;)

6' 2" and 185 at 58 years old, I strongly disliked all polymer pistols until about a month ago. I shot one of my gun buddies XD-S in .45 and started to get the bug. Then the XD-S were all recalled and Gun Buddy bought a G26 to keep him company while his XD-S was being modified.

Now we are both loving his new Glock G26 and I'll be getting one of these as an EDC as well...he's selling his XD-S when it gets back.

I have gone from not having the time of day for Glocks to *really* liking the G26 as I can easily conceal it and it shoots like a dream. Having my pinky fall off the bottom does not hinder or bother me in the least as it kinda curls over the bottom of the grip out of the way.

I have small hands at almost exactly 4" across the palm.

We all use what works for us and the reason there are a lot of pistol sizes and styles is because one size/style does not/will not/can not fit all. Ever. IMO.

VooDooi

For me the Glock 26 just doesn't fit my hand, in terms of overall ergonomics and comfort. A Glock 19 is a much better fit as is the Ruger SR9c, S&W Shield, and Kahr PM9.
