Here is a new NRA factsheet on Senator John Kerry's record on gun issues. The most important fact on this long list is the very last one.

John Kerry's Anti-Gun Record

Two decades of opposing gun owners' rights in the U.S. Senate make John Kerry the most anti-gun presidential nominee in U.S. history!

FACT: Kerry has voted nine times in favor of banning semi-auto firearms.

FACT: Kerry has voted for a Ted Kennedy amendment to ban most rifle ammunition, including the most common rounds used by hunters and target shooters.

FACT: Kerry has voted to close off hundreds of thousands of acres to hunting in the California Mojave Desert.

FACT: Kerry has voted to hold America`s firearms makers — not violent criminals — responsible for crimes commited with firearms.

FACT: Kerry was one of only 18 Senators who opposed the Firearms Owners` Protection Act, which ended alarming abuses being committed under the 1968 Gun Control Act.

FACT: Kerry has voted to allow unlimited warrant-less inspections of FFL holders.

FACT: Kerry has voted to criminalize legal sales between private citizens at gun shows.

FACT: Kerry has voted against increasing mandatory minimum and maximum penalties for the illegal transfer or use of a firearm. But he voted to impose penalties of a year in prison and a $10,000 fine on an adult if a juvenile steals a gun from him and then displays it in a public place.

FACT: Kerry has voted to force many small firearms dealers out of business, which would have impacted both the availability and price of guns, particularly in rural areas.

FACT: Kerry has voted 11 times to force law-abiding citizens to wait to exercise their Second Amendment rights. He voted to keep the federal waiting period after the National Instant Check System was in place.

FACT: Kerry voted twice to eliminate the Civilian Marksmanship Program.

FACT: Kerry commended commended an anti-gun group`s demonstration in Washington that called for gun owner licensing, gun registration and other restrictions on law-abiding gun owners.

FACT: If elected president, Kerry will pack the U.S. Supreme Court with Feinstein/Schumer/ Kennedy-selected anti-gun activists who believe you have no right to own any firearm.

Does it really matter? The current, supposedly conservative majority SCOTUS avoids direct 2nd Amendment challenges like the plague, letting a host of unconstitutional gun laws and bans remain on the books. It's safe to say that any anti-gun legislation signed into law will remain forever. The only reason the AW ban has a sunset clause is because that was what was needed to get enough votes in congress to pass.

What gun control does John Kerry really support

Under the Kerry plan you would be permitted to rent a single shot bolt-action .22cal rifle at an approved gun club, that is, after completing a two week safety course, passing a background check, and paying a $300 per year fee to obtain a Federal Shooter License.

All private ownership of firearms would be prohibited, except by special permission granted by Attorney General Diane Fienstein.

Well I think that as long as he is the one with the guns, or protected by armed guards, he is all for guns, otherwise he doesnt want anyone else to beable to say the same.

P.S. If guns are useless for defensive reasons, why do "they" have armed guards?

There are a few interesting points about Kerry & gun control in The Many Faces of John Kerry by David N. Bossie.

- Kerry has voted 51 of 55 times in favor of gun control.

- While Kerry claims to be a hunter, both The Humane Society and the Fund for Animals gave Kerry a 100% rating.

- Kerry's view on the Second Amendment as stated on March 4, 2004, "I believe strongly in the Second Amendment. I believe in the right to bear arms as it has been interpreted in our country."

what gun control does kerry support?

ALL of it.....I find his ideals genuinly disturbing..not just the gun control but everything.

The Brady Bunch rates Kerry as 100% on their side during his entire career. That's enough for me to vote for his opponent (even if Bush isn't as strong on guns as I'd like).

Gun control?

He would want to control everything else too. Starting with your money and property. Elimination of all private property seems to be the goal of these goons. To me that is the same as stealing everything from everyone. The TOP CROOK!

Is everyone forgetting that Kerry might not even get the chance to appoint anyone to the Supreme Court, let alone pack it?

Ya, I'm voting for Kerry because he might not get to appoint anyone to the Supreme Court. Thanks for pointing out our logical flaw. After all, how many did Clinton and Bush appoint over twelve years .. and how old are the justices? They could all live to one-hundred.

Tongue now out of cheek. I will admit that "pack" might not happen, but the courts balance could be shifted markedly away from our position. Remember, both sides are waiting for a favorable court, so that they can affirm, or deny the ownership of firearms as an individual right.

It is very likely, that the next President will have a chance to appoint 2-4 Supreme Court Judges. The answer to the thread question is-he supports almost all gun control schemes!

One assumes Kerry would allow one to purchase a Purdey shotgun for sporting purposes, provided it is properly registered and stored.
