So I posted below about the sig blaser sauer 100 and what companies belong to who. Thanks for the replies. Now I’m even more confused though. My family and I were going to go in on a new rifle for my dad for Christmas and for his 65 birthday. We enjoy the long range aspect of shooting and reloading. I found that sig 100 in the 6.5 prc and was very intrigued. Doesn’t sound like anyone can really say yeah it’s a good accurate gun. Dad told a buddy of mine he wanted to put Together a 270 with a barrel with a 1:7 twist and shoot a heavier bullet 150-160 grain to compete with my creedmoor. But looking around there are very few options with going custom to get what he wants. Our budget is $1000. Let’s hear your ideas. I’d be open to most calibers on the smaller side but not to small because we do like to hunt elk. Thanks

Under 1000? Used savage, rebarrel to chamber of whatever you choose, maybe 6.5 prc, maybe 6.5x284, maybe .270 wsm fast twist, maybe some 7 mag, leaves you 300 for a stock give or take.

The new Mauser M18 bolt-action seems to be a very nice rifle and about your price range. MAU_FLY_M18_240x210_8_Seiter_en_Preview.pdf

I like the 280 ackley, the availability is scarce as well, but it’s been around and will stay around. It’s “custom” enough to be interesting, and you can make the brass from 280 rem or 30-06 which will always be available. It performs like a 7mm rem mag almost, with less powder and recoil. Long range Bullets in .284 are much more plentiful than .277 also

Now for the rifle, staying under $1000 and a semi custom gun:

Nice wood stock, or decent composite $270
Winchester 70 classic $650 used
Bed it yourself
Ream to 280AI $100

Total: $1020

Custom bolt actions get expensive fast with no return on investment. It’s hard to not recommend a high end factory rifle. I love the Kimber 8400 and want one of my own. It’s a little more but VERY nice and have an accuracy guarantee.

Plus 1 on the 280 Ackley.
