What gun for Heller?

jakemccoy,
I'll join you on that.

PS Suddenly realized the logistics of getting this to an FFL and the user need thinking about.

Those are details. For the DC homeowner who is up for it, I'll set up a contract and help donate the money so that the homeowner can buy the gun him/herself. Preferably, it's the homeowner's only gun so that the point of the suit doesn't get lost due to the homeowner's accepted guns.

Good plan.
PM me as required.
I'm in for 50% but the more the merrier.

Nothing above 46 caliber of course..:p:p:p:p Sorry Jdude, - joke.

A good argument can be made for going for a semiauto that is on the Metro PD approved list (I am partial to my Ruger P90(45acp) and Taurus PT101 (40), in revolvers--GP100, S&W revolver in 45acp, 10mm or 38 super (full moon clips leading to very fast reloads)

I am going to make a thread on jakemccoy and Mr_Roger's idea over in activism. Count me in as well.

I suspect the hardest part is finding a trustworthy D.C. resident. Does anybody know a disarmed resident they trust?

Caveat: They must have Jake Mccoy size cajones. ;)

It's not really much cajones. The people with huge cajones can't post their thoughts. The gall of the DC authorities to sidestep a SCOTUS opinion is getting under everybody's skin. I just happen to see the dots connecting.

I have to doubt I'm the first one with this idea. It might already be in the works actually. If anybody knows, I'd like to jump on board and contribute.

If there is no FFL in DC to purchase from yet would someone moving into DC with an existing handgun be the best option?

S&W Thunder Ranch .45 ACP- it fits within all their criteria and there is absolutely no reason not to grant a permit.

I have been looking for a thread I saw earlier. Somebody in DC wondering what would happen if he went ahead with a purchase.

Poster name was "Ants" on the legal forum.

Well,I suppose if he wants a free gun (at the low, low cost of legal frustration) he would be a suitable target for our donation.

Particularly since he may be planning to do it already.

Mr_Rogers thank you for the link. Aside from that discussion, do you know of anyone who is actually engaged in this plan? Certainly like you have pointed out many others may have decided to do it. Is the proposed fund raising even necessary then?

The fundraising is the easier part. Good facts and the legal expertise to make the right decisions for the suit is the meat. We've got plenty of legal muscle around the country to make it happen. Now, we just need good facts to create the perfect storm.

Jdude,
I would imagine the Heller team has something going but I have not heard of it yet. There will no doubt be a few individuals who are thinking about applying for new "registration" of one sort or another. Any of these "registration applications" going ahead could make our interest mute if they involved a semi-auto of the right type.

Jake suggested that he would provide a suitable firearm to a volunteer applicant. This does not have to be a particularly special item. Any handgun meeting the SC's definition of "common" and DC's definition of "restricted" would be fine. It could be a cheap 22 as long as it met specifications but probably the best choice would be a handgun the same as those used by DC police. The applicant will, in all probability, be turned down. That is the basis of a lawsuit against the city citing the SC ruling. There has been no mention of anyone getting involved in a lawsuit so, at this time, we would be merely getting the satisfaction of being behind the first application to be turned down by DC following the SC ruling. Since the applicant could not take possession of whatever handgun was offered I do not suppose there would even be any major cost involved. However, it would be proper to go through with the deal when the DC restrictions are finally removed.

Jake's 'da Man. As far as I am concerned I would join his project to tweak Fenty's nose. If I lived in DC I would attempt to import and register a NEW (meaning new to me) semi-auto handgun, I certainly would not declare I had been the owner of an unregistered semi-auto handgun. I see no downside for the applicant apart from time used. There can be no penalty for applying for the registration of a restricted handgun as long as you do not actually take possession before you have the required permit.

Jake beat me to the post. Now there is mention of lawsuit. I would be behind filing suit. Any subsequent moves would have to be kept secret.

Dick Heller submitted his registration form years ago. That is why he was the only plaintiff with standing to sue as I recall. I would assume it would be for his duty weapon, which according to the article below is a .38 revolver Dough!! I am crossing my fingers and hoping that he registered something else like a hi-cap glock- which will simultaneously allow semi-autos & eliminate the magazine restriction.

Either way, you would have thought some gun company would have donated a couple of guns just to make sure that their wares were supreme court certified.

Interesting comment about the 38 revolver. I wonder if this is why DC wrote their restrictions that way. Give Heller what he wants, because they lost, and try to hold back everyone else.

.
Tom Gresham, our own GunTalk, announced today on his radio show the he is planning an effort to get the 6 original Heller plaintiffs special commemorative handguns. He'll collect the donations and assure the "proper" handgun and engraving.

I can only imagine a 1911, laser grips, with the 2nd Amendment, SCOTUS Docket number, an American Flag and Constitution scroll and THANKS engraved with gold inlays on the slab sides.

Just TRY and ban that!
