What happened to Colt's 1911?

Haha I was going to say... I couldn't tell if it had a flush hammer or a striker at first. I have no problems with strikers at all, I love my glock, but a striker fired Colt seems wrong. I would rather have a 1911 though or an "almost" 1911. I am definitely leaning towards a Colt being my next handgun purchase. The 1911 is probably the gun that got me interested in handguns in general. Something about it made me want to get into shooting. Maybe it is the media or the movies... not sure... but for some reason a 1911 looks like the PERFECT handgun. Even the ugly, beat up, worn ones look classy.

new colt 1911's are in stock at all my local gun shops nowadays.

they were mysteriously absent for years.

for some reason, all of a sudden colt is getting back into the market. i've seen full size, commanders, officers size....pretty much everything.

Colt is the right choice. They hold value the best. They are solid, good shooting guns. My newest, a stainless Commander, is flawless inside and out. Absolutely beautifully made. I got it off Gunbroker NIB for $750. Quite a good deal in my opinion.

Colt does not spend much on flashy advertising in the gun mags. They do not spend much on fancy dealer swag either it seems. Their is a reason why gun shops push products. It is usually driven by profit margins and followed closely by needing to move inventory that they were forced to purchase in order to be a stocking dealer and keeping whatever attendant incentives came along with it.

Colt is ALWAYS the right choice!

Whistling Moon - if you can, check out a new Colt 01918 model if you can find one. It's their current issue of their WWI reproduction series, basically it's a reproduction of the pistols made in 1918 at the end of the war. Damn nice pistols, if you're wanting something true to the original design. Mine is an 01911, which is the same gun but with a blued finish. The 01918's are black. The 01911's were a limited run, and are out of production, but if you can find one I'd bet you'd fall in love with it! This is mine.....the 01911 serial numbers end with WMK, the 01918's end with WWI.
