I shot two does so far this season and neither one of them left much of a blood trail. I had to rely on watching them drop. I shot a perfect double lung shot on a small doe in a corn field, ran only a few yards. I looked for a blood trail just because I can and found nothing where I shot her. I found some dribbles closer to the body though. Today I just shot a large doe. Angle shot from a stand. In the lung and out further back:eek: She angled away when I shouted at her before the shot. I tried placing the shot farther up her shoulder but to no avail. It still ended bad. But, she did die very quickly but not before doing a nose dive into a deep ravine. Did I mention I forgot to bring a tow rope? Anyway, No blood trail there either just some dribbles by the body. I did find a pee trail though. I'm using a 20 ga with Hornady sst's. Last year I used a 12 ga with cheep crap and that doe left a river. Is the lack of blood trail a result of different ga bullets, or different brand bullets, or something else?

Were your shots high in the lungs? When they are the blood pools into the chest untill it reaches the exit hole. Most fall and die before this.

the first doe was shot right smack in the middle of the lungs. The second doe was shot from a tree stand so the bullet went in about the Forward middle part of the lungs and exited out the liver and unfortunatly nicked a bit of the gut (she kept angling her rump away the more she looked at me).
That might be it
