What happens to the guns confiscated by police?

I had a CZ-75BD stolen from me. The police recovered it and gave it back to me. They kept 30 rounds of 9mm Federal Hydra-Shoks. The ammo probably got used at the police range. The state of Kentucky has state police auctions of confiscated weapons. Most are pure junk.

Do they destroy the guns?
Yes.

I'll bet a few have gone "off location" (as they say in the warehouse business, for item that can't be found) but at least 99% of them are destroyed.

The whole thing about guns that were used in crime not being resellable to the public doesn't make complete sense in light of the fact that you can just change the barrels, particularly with autopistols.

Crow1108 .............my DH and I can only hope that his stolen 1911 will turn up and not been used in a crime. We have yet to get my Beretta 9mm back from the lab. It's been 4 weeks. They will not return our $300 in ammo that was also taken. I am going to the top to get that back. Their SOP sounds like crap to us. We are the victims but feel we are being punished.

The punk was caught and will likely get 25 to life for the crime.

Flagal, sorry to hear that . I hope you get your Beretta and ammo back.

Glad to hear he was caught. Hope he gets everything that's comming to him in the bighouse.
