Ok, I just ordered a 1851 Confederate Navy, .44 Caliber Revolver. You know, something a bit different than my usual Glock or 1911.

Before I receive it and start shooting, what don't I know now that I'll wish later that I did?

Any advice would be most appreciated.

Well, there are people who sniff and look down their noses at .44 cal 1851 Navies as "not being period authentic". If such things matter to you (they don't to me, and I think they're wrong anyhow), you may wish you had ordered a .36 cal instead.

Tell em to stuff it. It's your toy and you get to play with it any way you want to.

There are a lot of variations of the original Colt 60 army that include the old navy loading lever, navy sized grips etc that the .44 pietta is at least feasible and at most, very close to revolvers that colt actually made.
