I've been doing some shopping and I feel like the prices I've seen are awfully high, but that could just be me. What would you consider a fair price for a new Remmy 1100?

Model? Stock? Barrel length? Chokes?

That's like asking how much does a Ford cost. The answer is "It all depends on which Ford you are talking about and which features it has on it."

Before a good answer can be given, you will have to explain what configuration 1100 you are speaking of purchasing. The new 1100 guns are mostly setup as competition guns. A used field grade 1100 can be bought really reasonable. Please let us know what 1100 you are wanting to buy.

A basic one with a primary purpose of HD/SD.

Maybe you could recommend a model and a price?

I'd like it to be on the more basic/cheaper end of the spectrum.

There's no 1100 that's exactly cheap. The 11-87 has a much lower MSRP. It's a newer design too. 1100's are particular about the ammo they'll cycle properly. The 11-87 is a much newer design that adjusts or can be adjusted for different ammo. $757 MSRP for the 11-87 vs $1239 MSRP for a new 1100.

Go to www.gunbroker.com and punch in Remington Model 1100 and check for yourself. Do not overlook the new in the box models that are no longer in production, either. The availability of gauges, models, and conditions is mind boggling. And, not talking condition, they are all at least very good guns in my opinion.

Oddly enough 1100s are mad cheap over here, just about the cheapest semi-auto you can buy, except the Turkish stuff. A used 1100 will probably sell for maybe £250, which is very cheap indeed.

The Remington web sight has not listed an 1100 in a home defense model in a couple of years. You may find one out there at a gun store. Last year I bought a still new 2001 model 1100 that was a black synthetic model. Something like that would work for home defense. There is no problem with your choice of the 1100 for home defense. They work fine. The problem comes in that the last couple of years the new 1100's have been changed to a competetion gun. Millions of 1100's have ben sold throughout the years. Go find yourself a good used model and make it what you want. Parts and pieces are plentiful and easy to find.

Edit... I forgot to mention a price, but like cochise said below $300-$400 all day long for used if you look closely.

You can find used field grades for between 300 & 400 dollars all day long, a little more if in 98% + condition. They are great guns I use one as my rainy day beater duck gun.
