Competitive Shotgun

I took a shotgun class once using a simple bead sight. POA POI was fine for bird and buck shot. The slugs shot high (either Federal truball or Breneke). When it came time
For slug work, I kept having to chant to my myself belly button belly button. It was the only way I could remember to alter my POA so that in like get a clean chest shot. You can certainly learn the offset. Finding slugs that are more aligned where the bird and buck shot hit just make things a little easier.
Same here. "Hold low. Hold low. Hold low."

Can hit with slugs and a bead, just remember your holds.

The 1100's hold up fine, I have use a modified old LT 20ga and a 12ga tactical.

If your interested I would sell the 12ga tactical with speed loaders/adapter. As I have switched to a Sagia 12 and haven't had the tube feeder out of the safe in a few years.

On all of my 1100's I keep lube and an extra o-ring behind the butt plate, just incase but have never needed either since I started doing so. A busted o-ring had me single feeding one day dove hunting though, so I stay prepared now.

How are shooters managing that on divisions using mag fed semi's like the Saiga where it's more of a pain to load just one or two rds? Just a crap-ton o' mag changes?
Selective loading: first in, last out. Actually, same as with tube magazines. If the stage is 3 birdshot targets, 2 slugs, then 1 birdshot, you load 1 bird, followed by 2 slugs, then 3 bird. Maybe an extra round in case of a miss, but you have to be careful not to shoot a birdshot target with a slug (safety violation, usually a match disqualification).

That is a more advanced technique, so get a few matches in before you try it.

Yeah, what little shotgun work that I've done with slugs (out of my Rem 870 Marine Mag) they shot high as well.

I could deal with that. The 5-6" inches low and to the right part is what stumped me. I'll post results next time I go. I'll probably go the weekend after next.

I bought 30 of the 1 oz slugs from Federal (15 rd boxes) and 50 of the 1 oz slugs from Remington. Plus I installed that clamp. So hopefully installing the clamp plus the switch to the better quality of ammo will help with the point of impact.

Like the video.

Thanks for the offer, but the idea of using a Rem 1100 was more based off of using what I have (...in this case 'had') vs buying something new.

Went to the range today, this shotgun definitely likes Remington slugs better than Federal.

At 40 yards.

^ Remington ^ on the blue/green target

^ Federal ^ on the red target

(The other holes are the wad)

Still shooting low and to the right, just not as bad with the Remington.

Throw out the outermost flyer which was definitely me and the group isn't to bad. Not exactly great though.

I'm sure you will find something that is POA POI for slugs. Lots of brands to test. A good problem to have.

Benelli M1/M2 Super 90.

All my Benellis have been flawless. They do cost but I feel they are worth it. I tried setting up 1100/11-87s and I couldn't make them work 100% and I do not like the shell carrier release,I prefer the side receiver button location.

I do occasionally run vintage Remington Model 11s with all new springs and friction pieces and modern recoil pad, they are a hoot and shoot fast:D.
