Today's paper has a classified ad for a Smith & Wesson K49 in 38Sp for $150. It says the gun is new. I assume they mean new condition, not a gun manufactured recently. I searched for K49 but didn't get anywhere.

Is this gun worth $150 if it's in good shape? Any other info on this model?

Hello,

There never was a "Model K49" that I'm aware of, but the seller could mean a Model 49 (J-frame snubbie with steel frame and shrouded hammer), a .38 Special with a serial number of K49 (not too likely as the "K" series starts at K101) or maybe a pre-model-marked gun with K49 as an assembly number. Do you have any other details about the gun?

I don't know anything else. Tried calling the number listed in the ad and got rap music instead of a ring. Guess I'll pass on this one.

Any S&W in good shape is worth well more then that.
If it's a real S&W of any model, buy it and we can sort out the details later.

Added: Rap music huh?

The Bodyguard came in a few different versions.
Model 49-Blue Steel or Nickel.
Model 649 Stainless (not the current 357)
There was also an airweight version.
Model 38 Blue or Nickel
Model 638 Stainless
