What is an average range day

100 rds of 54 R to shoot my Mosin rifle of choice. 120 rds of 7.62 x 39 either my SKS or AK. 100 rds of .22 LR. After that im tired.

I break my range visits into four different categories; I need to keep my trips short (30 minutes or less) and to the point due to family time demands:

1) handgun -- 15-20 rounds from concealment at targets 3-21 feet

2) shotgun -- 5 rounds at targets no further than 10 yards

3) carbine -- three positions, 30 rounds total, 25-100 yards

4) rimfire plinking -- this is for when I have more free time. Maybe an hour, shooting steel.

I like to shoot handgun once a week, shotgun and carbine once a month, plinking once or twice a month.

Go maybe once, twice a year. Mostly to just check if it`s still..."on."

Not an ammo burner. Get in and get out.

My boys and grandson make up the group.

I always have a couple 22's with me (rifles and handguns). Yes, I have ammo. Sometimes it is for fun and sometimes I am shooting groups with various brands and so forth. I don't shoot groups with handguns. That is more causal and yes, I pay attention to where I hit, but I'm not obsessed with the groups. I often will have more 22's in my vehicle if I decide to shoot something else. I like 22's.

I usually take along a 38 or 357 revolver or a 40 S&W pistol and shoot a little. Seldom will shoot 50 rounds.

I take one big boomer with me and see how I do. Of late it's a BFR in 475/480. Yes, I am shooting factory ammo. I will generally run though about 40 rounds (two 20 ct boxes).

I seldom take a center fire rifle of any kind. I am just not that interested and I shoot up the ammo too quickly. So, no, I don't burn through a couple hundred rounds of 223 just to make a bunch of noise.

All this is usually done in a few hours depending on how many people are there. I enjoy visiting and watching other shooters do their thing almost as much as shooting myself.

Every Saturday I'm picked up at my house by 'the group'. Usually two, sometimes three recently activated shooters.
Along the way to the range we discuss current events. At the range we there is always the friendly good mornings.
I normally shoot about 100 22lr. Handgun. Move along to a center fire handgun and shoot 50 reloads. Usually I bring along a long gun, AR, Ak, 10/22 whatever, and run 2-3 boxes through that.
Afterword we head out to one of several favorite restaurants for lunch.... And talk about current events.

600 rounds of 9mm, 45acp, 357sig, 10mm
200 rounds of 223, 300 BLK, 7.62x39 and 308
50 rounds of 22LR
I do this about 2x a month weather permitting.

Range Day

The wife and I go once every other month to the local indoor range and have fun with about 100 .22s and 50-100 split between 9mm and .45 - usually stay an hour and a half unless the less safety-minded lane neighbors decide to sweep us or bust out the AR's and shower us with brass:banghead:
I wish I could find a place where we could build a range in our backyard....

Two to three times a week

Generally two times but sometimes three times a week at my local indoor range

S&W M&P 15 (AR-15) - 100 to 150 rounds
Glock 19 - 150 rounds 9mm
CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical - 150 rounds 9mm
Bersa Thunder 380 - 50 to 100 rounds

Expensive ? Heck yeah...Especially since its about an hour to 1.5 hour session..But love doing it ...

The AR maybe every other session...The handguns every session

Backyard range here also. It really depends on what I'm doing or working on.

I've got a 30 yard graveled pistol range, and steel swinger rifle targets out to 500 yards. Usually spring-summer-fall, a couple times a week, 50-100 rds of pistol doing drills. Rifle whenever I feel the urge, 20-100 rds. Sometimes when the wind is up, I'll shoot 20 or so rds off the back deck at my 385m turkey swinger just to see what the wind effect is and practice. In prep for deer seaon I'll do "walk-abouts" and shoot from various positions/distances on swingers to simulate. Lately I've been doing a couple sessions a week with my 10 year old prepping him for his 1st youth deer season this fall.

Today one of our Lieutenant Colonels is coming out, so we'll go through a couple hundred rounds of handgun doing drills/IDPA CoFs.

Very rarely will I shoot more than I gun in a session. Once in a great while I'll have a bunch of new folks out, usually uniformed and civilians, then I'll do a "show and tell" session and drag a bunch of stuff out. I always regret it when it's time to clean though........

I just had an "extra nice" range day.

On the longest day of the year, I got to my club's outdoor range at 7:30pm, left at 8:05 p.m., had the entire range all to myself. 30 rounds 5.56, 36 rounds .38 Special, all good shots.

Whatever I want it to be since the range is 5 minutes from home.
There might be no one else there, or 2 or 3 people half of whom I know.
A typical range outing is a low stress experience.

Range days are match days.

Went like this May and June:
May 4 Cowboy action 120 rds .38 & 45 colt some 12 ga.
May Wild bunch Cowboy action on the 17. 100 .45 ACP 80 45 Colt some 12 ga.
May 18 cowboy action. 120 rds .38 & 45 colt some 12 ga.
May 24&25 NYS wild bunch state championship 200 45ACP 100 .45 colt 50 12 ga.
June 1 cowboy action 120 rds .38 & 45 colt some 12 ga.
June 7 IDPA 100 rds .357
June 11 PPC 100 rds .38
June 15 cowboy action 120 rds .38 & 45 colt some 12 ga.
June 21 IDPA 100 rds .357

Loading on a single stage press makes the week go by quick. Good thing I'm retired!

I really fluctuate from year to year. Last year until November I spent most of my time tearing up the sporting clays courses around me. probably 15,000 rounds last year. Now I haven't touched a shotgun since Thanksgiving.

The prior year I spent all my time shooting USPSA, and barely touched my shotguns.

This year I've just been too busy to shoot much of anything. Bought a new 9mm 1911 and shot that a couple times and that's been about all. Hoping to go shoot something tomorrow.

Nothing seems ''normal'' for me, it just depends on my mood.

Average these days? I live about 12 miles from the private club I've belonged to for 37 years. Nothing special. 50 bucks a year. My job allows me to shoot in the morning. I've been taking 2, .22s. One scoped and the other irons. I take 7 clay pigeons and put them on the 100yd back stop. I shoot with the irons untill I break the pigeons, then finish the pieces with the scoped one. I generally shoot 30 rounds or so. I average once a week but this week I went 3 times. I take different rifles each time. It just enough to satisfy and keep me in tune without blowing alot of ammo.

Ive found my concentration level is pretty much zapped after about 150 rds or an hour and a half...whichever comes first.

Not counting the time I spend scrounging around in the dirt looking for brass!

Working class poor..

Average maybe 4-6 times/year. 9mm pistol = 42-50 rounds fmj or the .30 caliber rifle = 15-30 rounds fmj fired. Indoor 25 yard range, no time limit, $20 fee one person/ $30 for two. I also plink in my basement with a pump air pistol and rifle in .177 caliber. :)

My day typically is determined by target destruction. I keep soda cans and 2 liter bottles, Pringles cans etc because I don't enjoy shooting paper all that much anymore. I fill them with water and shoot until everything is perforated and drained. I occasionally take golf balls too and shoot until I launch them to a place I can't find them anymore. I typically take a revolver, my contender, my pt99 a center fire rifle and a rim fire rifle. Most days one gun just goes for a ride and never gets out of the truck. I shoot a lot of 44 mag 357 mag, 9mm, 30-30, .270, and occasionally .243 plus as much 22 lr as I feel I can replace over a 2 week span as I try to go about every 2 weeks. I would guess my average range trip is 250-300 rounds total but can easily be as little as 50 or as much as 500. All depends on targets.

Mine is spent shooting sporting clays - a lovely walk in park-like conditions, shooting 100 targets in a variety of presentations that will challenge even the best shooters

Range day

I get to the range at least twice a week. I also shoot four rounds of Trap singles every Wednesday.
Round count....I am amazed at how much the previous posters shoot. Nothing near that for me.
Rifles - prone practice with a .22 will be 50 shots. Prone with the AR will be forty to fifty. Hunting rifles are usually 20 rounds fired offhand. All 100 yard targets.
Pistols - most often 50 rounds, occasionally 100, from either a .22 or a 1911
For hunting pistols - twenty shots at 50 yards.
Most often, a range day means ONE of the above. Sometimes two.
