Howdy gentlemen:)
I've recently been using the Hornady 178 gr. BTHP Match bullets out of my Styre CISM rifle.
Being Hornady doesn't show a BC on their web site for this bullet I wonder what it actually is.
Take a look at the overall shape as opposed to say a 168 or 175 gr Sierra MK. or even a Nosler 168 gr CC.
The Hornady bullet looks pretty sleek by comparison. I'm trying to get an accurate BC for it.
Reason: The Hornady bullet is about 50 fps slower than the 168 gr. Sierra or Nosler bullets but requires to dial in 1 inch less elevation to hit the same spot at 600 yrds.
175 gr. Sierra MK's going at the same fps requires almost a full 2 inches less elevation to hit the spot.
My ballistics calculator using generic data gives me a bc of .524 but I think it's higher than that.
What say you

This is the info at Midway site for the 178gr A-Max.

Technical Information
Caliber: 30
Bullet Diameter: 0.308
Bullet Weight: 178 Grains
Bullet Style: A-Max Boat Tail
Bullet Coating: Non-Coated

Ballistics Information:
Sectional Density: 0.268
Ballistic Coefficient: 0.495

I think the .530 that ar put in might be pretty accurate. So now I need to rework my data as something doesn't quite add up unless the bc is quite a bit higher. so this gets an official mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm:scrutiny:
