What Is The Difference between a S&W 1911SC & 1911PD ???

I have looked on Smith & Wesson's web site but their descriptions are generic. What are the differences between the 1911SC and the 1911PD both in commander size other than perhaps one is blue and the other stainless ? I know the "SC" means scandium but what does the "PD" stand for ?

The Scandium is designed to be lighter for carry. It weighs 28oz empty compared to the PD which I believe is 38-42oz empty.

There is a noticeable difference between both. Which ever you buy you wont be dissappointed.

I believe some of the PDs are scandium-framed also.

SC has a scandium frame and a stainless slide

Some of the PD's do too. In revolvers they often mix the scandium frames with titanium barrels and cylinders.

My 1911PD Gunsite has a Sc. frame and a blackened with Mellonite Stainless slide.
