Hello. Does the U.S. Army issue a knife to the infantry? If so, what is it?

Thanks. :)

Anyone issued toolbox will probably have the Geber multitool on their web belt as fast as they can get it on.

Aviators on flight status still get issued the AF pilots survival knife.

The infantry? AFAIK every M16/M4 in the inventory has a bayonet to go with it. Are they issued out with the weapon? Not all the times. Stateside you will probably never touch your assigned bayonet outside the arms room.

the Army gave us all leatherman tools. we dont use the bayonets much.....theyre big and they break a lot.

I was a tanker in the 80's and we weren't issued any knife. We could check out a bayonet from the arms room when we went to the field but most people furnished their own.

So, are U.S. Army infantry personnel allowed to carry their own fixed blade knife if they want?

Depends totally on the unit chain of command. There is no regulation that permits it. BTW Infantry is spelled with a CAPITOL I :D .

Pretty much everyone here in Iraq carries their own personal fixed blade or folder. Some supply rooms will order Benchmade autos for their guys others won't...

I keep a Benchmade auto clipped in the pocket and a Benchmade fixed on my IBA.

A good pocket knife like the Swiss Army knife or a multi-tool, will be far more useful for a soldier than a big fixed-blade knife.

Of course, when you need the big sticker, you _really_ need it.
