I ran across what appeared to be a 336 in 30-30 for sale locally. It has 30as stamped on it, and from the serial number should be a 1989 model. The guy said that it has a low round count. The finish looks good, and only has normal wear on it. He refinished the stock with some linseed oil because of some minor scratches. It also has a scope mount and what looks to be an extra wide hammer or a hammer extension? What would this particular specimen be worth in today's market?

Depending on the market where you live and the condition of the gun, it would
probably be worth anywhere between $ 300.00 and $ 450.00. I have seen the
Marlin 336 priced higher though. I bought one for $ 330.00 with scope years
ago and I love it! It is very accurate and a great gun for deer hunting in wooded
areas and cover. Marlin 336 rifles have a good reputation for the most part.

Fair prices for a 336C. The 336AS is no longer made, but the 336W is pretty much the same thing. A budget rifle selling new for $377 currently. A 336 AS with the stock refinished is a $200-$250 gun at most depending on how well the wood was refinished.

I'm in the Raleigh/Durham area of NC. I think that Marlin would be worth at least $ 300.00. Start there if you are interested. I am happy with my 336
and it is a reliable lever action that won't break the bank.

yeah, 250-300 depending on overall condition and if any accesories or ammo came with it. that's assuming it's a beech or other hardwood stock. add 30-40 if it's walnut.

However, the 30AS in question was actually made by Marlin, and not by Remington...

In the last few years people have started paying higher and higher prices for 'real' Marlins due to the reports of poor quality coming form the Ilion produced Marlingtons...

Considering I just picked up a very good plus condition 336CS (not a Marlington) for $350 OTD from a LGS, I'd say $250-$300 maximum for what you described.
