Friend of mine contacted me and sent along just this one pic of this rifle. He knows I'm a "gun guy", but honestly my tastes and knowledge are more modern. (Unless we're talking old smiths) . So anyway, old rifles aren't my thing and never have been. I know it's not much to go on, but I figured that strange rear sight has to be a dead giveaway to someone. He also said the only markings he could find on the rifle said "K5", though he didn't mention where. So, what has he got ? Approximate value ? All that good stuff. Thanks.

It appears to be some breed of Mannlicher.

Maybe a Dutch Hembrug? Need to post a pic of the entire rifle, not just the receiver. Descriptions of numbers would also be useful.

Carcano, and looking at the rear sight, mebbe a Novatuno long rifle?

Value's between $100 and $250 depending on maker and year. Condition isn't as huge a factor as you'd think, guns tend to clean up well if a knowledgeable collector does a careful job.
