A friend of mine offered to trade me his shotgun for one of my handguns. Trouble is that I have never heard of the shotgun. It is a Simmons Royal doublebarrel in 12 gauge with 28" barrels. I have searched the internet and have not been able to find anything on this gun. The gun seems to be in good condition but I have no idea of it's value. Does anyone know anything about these guns and approximately what it would be worth? My friend told me he bought it in the late 60s and it was used then. He thought it might be from the 50s but really didn't know. Need some help!!!!!

From oldguns.net:

Simmons was a "house brand" name used by some retailer (sorry I don't know exactly who) for several shotguns. The ones I have listed are Simmons model 411 and 411E. These were made by Savage under their own name as the Savage 540DL and 540BDE respectively

Probably not worth a whole lot, but maybe. Either way it should be a good useful shotgun if its in decent shape.

Max value in excellent condition: $300

Photos would help. Check for rust. Any rust on the gun devalues it. If it has been reblued or the stock refinished, less value.

Good, solid gun, though. If you plan to use it and have no plans to resell it, I think it would be worth $300. If your plans are to sell it at some point, you won't get that much for it, IMO.

If you wish to learn, like and maintain the double barrel for yourself in very good condition and use it from time to time go for it. But Im thinking maybe, one of your Pistols has a greater value than the gun itself.

I Think your friend has taken a liking to one of your hanguns and is willing to trade for it, ignoring the monetary value for the moment, look at the shotgun and see if it is in good condition with no rust.

Sometimes a trade that makes someone happy but yet has a useable weapon to you is a good trade. But money value? Hard to say.

Kind of like I will trade you yesterday's doughnut for today's coffee.

But, who knows? The gun may be something you might consider. If not, maybe someone else in your circle will know and would want that kind of gun.
