What is your favorite 7.62mm JHP cartridge?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is your favorite 7.62mm JHP cartridge?

in regular only.

not +P etc.

thanks

Not sure what you are asking but likely a 168 grain HPBT on top of a 308 Winchester overall. Discounting cartridges like the 300 WM or .300 Lapua Magnum. That being all around general application target shooting. I also like the 180 grain HPBT, especially on a 30-06 cartridge.

Ron.

Handgun ?

I realize this is the "Rifle Country" section... but generally rifle rounds don't come in +P.

Unless you mean "Magnum" rounds.

More specific info please.

What rifle are you going to use it in ?

the Reason for my stupid post
Hello. Thanks for taking the time to reply. The reason for this dumb post is to see how rifle folks think vs. Handguns:Autoloaders think.

This same question was asked there with the only change being I substituted "7.62" for "9mm"

My contention is if one wants to reference a 9X19 cartridge they should mention it as such, not just 9mm.

For that I'm getting raked over the coals there and labeled a troll. I'm told everyone there automatically knows what a poster means when they say 9mm.
Well I don't. or .45 or .38 either.

To me firearms hobby is all about precision, in language as well.

Your insightful and kind answer (a.k.a. the High Road style) indicated what I interpret as a logical confusion given the question.

"7.62" could be any number of .30 caliber rounds. While you are "technically" correct that there are various 9mm rounds out there, most of the time people NOT referring to 9x19, 9mm "Luger" or 9mm Parabellum will specifically state as much aka 9mm MAKAROV or 9mm Winchester magnum. With rifle rounds, there are at 3 quite popular military cartridges that nclude "7.62" in their name, and few people use the "7.62" designation alone, to avoid confusion. Basically...what you were told elsewhere is right...9mm, to the vast majority of shooters, will be recognized as 9x19, but a "7.62" round would liekly cause some confusion in name alone(*LOOKING* at the 7.62x54, the 7.62x39, and the 7.62x51, its quite easy to distinguish them if you are familiar with the rounds)

He got the idea from this thread, which was titled "What is your favorite 9mm JHP cartridge?" with an OP that read

"What is your favorite 9mm JHP cartridge?

in regular only.

not +P etc.

thanks
max"

and was posted in handguns: autoloaders

He knows. We already told him that. ;)

In my opinion, a person who possesses a basic/fundamental knowledge of common firearms and firearms terminology/conversations, would compare using "9mm" to describe a semi automatic handgun cartridge with using ".223" to describe a semi auto rifle cartridge.

If you were to start a thread in this sub forum and ask what our favorite .223 home defense cartridge was, we would probably all respond with .223 Remington answers (and maybe bring up 5.56x45). We would not respond by saying that .223 Winchester Super Short Magnum was our favorite .223 home defense cartridge.
