im not talking about that 30 bucks for 20 rounds of high dollar premium brass.

im talking about the stuff you pickup at the range, like winchester, r-p, cci, and one of my favorites, good old LC.

for pistol i really like the winchester and the r-p.

for rifle (.223) as i said, i like LC and winchester. i also found some ppu that seems pretty nice even though the primer pockets seem a little tight.

Pistol brass, about anything goes, except the infamous A-MERC.

I don't shoot much mixed rifle brass. Mine is bought by brand and lot and carefully loaded for the best accuracy I can manage.

speaking of brass, i found a very unusual (at least to me) piece of 45acp brass.

it looks like it takes a much smaller primer than any other piece of 45acp ive ever found.

the headstamp says: federal nt 45 auto.

the primer pocket measures .174 across and .110 deep.

NT (non-toxic) brass is almost as annoying as A-Merc. it ain't reloadable, its a nuisance and like hillery--wont go away.

i like free range bass--just dont like cleaning it

Wrong. Federal and Winchester non-toxic brass is reloadable but most (all?) use small pistol primers.

i sit corrected......all i have to do is sort NT from the masses of brass ( easy to do since i have all the time in the world) and than swap out my large primer to a small primer assembly for the handfull of NT's i was unlucky enough to find. All the while remembering to smile each time a missed NT case jams up at the priming station on my progressive press.
i mis-spoke before: NT is not almost as bad as A-Merc....it is as bad.

for rifle, I was happy finding winchester or remington brass for quite a while. Im still picking up the remington, but Im leaving behind the winchester. The last couple of months, whether I buy a new bad of .223 or pick up from the range, it seems that it isnt concentric or symetrical. put it in the case trimmer and it has a wobble to it.

overall, Ill pick up anything for pistol and Im more selective with rifle (as are many people) and Lake City has bee pretty goo brass, seems to be worth the little extra time removing the crimp.

I just sort fed and win for the 625's in 45ACP, and the rest gets fed to the USP's.
In 9mm all goes in one bucket for loading after cleaning.

Hey Claude...I do it all the time. I use the NT brass just for plinking. Actually it's good brass. And it's not that hard to tell the difference from large primered brass.

I believe PPU is Prvi Partizan, from Serbia. The characters are Cyrillic. I've not used it myself, but tight primer pockets seems to be the norm for ammo from that part of the world. S&B is the same way.

As for my favorite range brass, I find most of it to be good except for A-MERC, which should be avoided like the plague. Right now I'm loading 9mm with a fresh batch of once-fired R-P and I agree with you, it's good stuff.

I pick up everything, in by booth, including the .22 - at home I sort them out once I fill the pretzel cointainer (which contained 4 pounds of pretzles) I sort, sell off the calibers I don't own and take the .22 to the recycling center.

Most everthing except R-P 38 Special and 357 Magnum. Some of the most recent manufacture has walls so thin that they don't hold regular size bullets tight enough. Don't like R-P 38 Special Nickel as the mouth seems to split fairly quickly. Old brass seems better than new manufacture, much of my brass is over 30 years old, reloaded several times, annealed, and still preferred to new stuff.

I can't pass up any brass at the range other than .22 of course, especially free! Oddly enough, My favorite range pick-ups of all are .45acp nickle plated brass, I just like their shiny presents among all the other plain old brass.

'I pity the fool' that picks up any brass I leave laying on the range. he's gonna be dissapointed! I sort my brass after shooting 4-5 times or so, if rifle checking for neck splits if pistol same and beat-up rims. these I load and use for off-hand practice, 'shoot and scoot', etc. I leave 'em lay.

As this question is not worth it's own thread, I will ask it here.

The other day I found a .357mag brass with a "SUPER VEL" headstamp. I know they were an early JHP manufacture, but I though they were long out of business. It was sitting right on top of the brass bucket too.

And as I am a nerd, I kept it and am now displaying it in my ashtray.

I like magtech brass, and tend to see lots of it. Really, I don't have a gripe about anything, other than the infinite supply of steel surplus cases I wade through for the real gold nuggets.

I take any and all brass, even A-MERC, and I will pick up the .22 mags and .17 HMR's too if I have time, those long cases are worth picking up, the .22lr's are not worth it unless there is a pile of them to sweep into my bucket.

My favorite one to find is CBC (which is Magtech). It's just the nicest to reload I think.
I did find a big pile of Starline *_* 9mm +P+ brass and that was nice stuff.

I really like finding the Hornady personal protection 9mm ammo brass, it is nice nickle brass that has been treated so it is a neat smoky black color. I load molycoated bullets in them and they look evil.

I like nickel. It's beautiful.
What can I say? I'm a geek.
38 Super in Federal Nickel is thing of beauty. I don't even have a 38 Super.

I try to grab all I can and then find one of each type. Weatherby looks cool with it's radiused shoulder. Somebody shoots a lot of .257 Weatherby at my range.

I see a ton of 40S&W, but have no use for it. I gave it to coworker that loads 40S&W, but has no use for it either. He is more addicted than me. hehe.

I see the NT stuff too. If you reload 9mm, 40S&W and 45ACP, then you only need one primer.
