Actually, I've had a soft spot for the M1 Carbine most of my life because the lieutenant on "Combat" had one. I didn't care that much for Sargent Sander's tommy gun for some reason. :D

Allies:

1918 and 1918-A1 BAR 350 OR 450 rounds per minute of .30-'06!!!!!! Get some!
1928 and 1928-A1 and M1 Thompson
1911-A1 .45 acp A fistfull of fury.
M1 Garand "The greatest battle implement ever devised."
M2 "Ma Deuce"!!!!! .50 caliber Still serving proudly!!!!
F4-UF Corsair "The Sweetheart of Okinawa"
Iowa Class Battleships (No need to say anything more about these gorgeous ships!!!)

Axis:
K98k Mauser 7.92mm. Still the most beautiful bolt rifle ever, IMO.
P-08 Luger 9mm
P-35 High Power 9mm
P-38 9mm
Walther PP 7.65 mm
MG-42 Awesome firepower!!!!!!!!!

the cossacs had a sword called a shaska. i know it may have not been the most effective, but it was effective when it was used.

My 1942, Mosin Nagant 91-30 and My Cousin's K-43 that he found in a wall while he was restoring a rich bliss-ninny's house. BN had just bought the home as an investment..... and he told the contractor (my cuz) to take that dirty greasy old gun away from his house..... he can have it:D . It cleaned up well and shoots like a dream. No chance to get it away from him :( he knows what it is worth.

dont really have a single favorite, the mod98 mauser for bolt action, the thompson m1 smg for semi and auto small arms and of course the US1919 and german mg42 for beltfed.

B.A.R.

From WW1 to Vietnam it served US forces all over the world. Absolutely my favorite full auto of all time and the most fun gun I've even gotten to shoot.

MP-40 = braaaatbraaaaat

Thompson = bambambambambambam

BAR = BOOMBOOMBOOMBOOM :D

Oh yeah, also the favorite weapon of Clyde Barrow.

Of course you'd want a 1911 or a 1917 Colt New Service to keep you company in close quarters. Lugers are cool, I love mine but they are finicky.

One last one...not sure if it qualifies as a WW2 rifle...but I always loved the look of the Enfield Jungle Carbine.

Why not? It was introduced in '44.

Why is everyone so obsessed with the Thompson?
Maybe it's just me, but doesn't it weigh something along the lines of 12 lbs. loaded? o_O

Just seems too heavy to be a real SMG for me.

Tough call.

I like the M1 Garand, M1911A1, and P-08 Luger, but for tonight, I'll call it the M1903A4 Sniper Springfield. :neener:

P-47 Thunderbolt

MG 42

Tommy Gun

Bren

Ma Deuce

Garand

Panzerfaust

The basic issue US Army infantryman. Without him the best weapons would not have amounted to anything.

The first time I looked at a Garand I fell in love with it. Hands down I would want a Garand. The Thompson was a great gun but I believe I heard it makes a crap load of noise when you carry it.

For long range work I'll take the M1 Garand
For closeup work give me a STEN MK II and a bandoleer of frag grenades! (and a wall to get behind once thrown)

I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned the Bren. The BAR was a groundbreaking design but it wasn't a very good infantry weapon. It was too heavy to be an automatic rifle, and didn't have a quick-change barrel or enough ammo capacity to make a good LMG. The Bren on the other hand changed barrels easily, had a 30 round top-loading mag (allowing it to be fired prone) and was very accurate and controllable in automatic fire. They even made 100 round drums so it could be used as a GPMG.

Sadly the UK replaced them in '86 with their LSW which is basically a HBAR SA80 :barf: The Czech republic still uses a cousin of the Bren called the UK vz.58.

Little Boy and Fat Man

Little Boy and Fat Man are my favorite weapons of WWII. I wish we had dropped a third on these bastards who treated our POWs the way you wouldn't treat a dog, a pistol shot to the head would have been kinder than what most had to endure: ever read of the treatment of flyers shot down over Japan during WWII?. Otherwise the battlerifle that killed more Nazis and Japs and later Chi Coms and North Korean dog eaters, than any other, the M1 Garand, what else could it be.

Every one of them. Right now I am saving my scrap copper(my gun money) for a Garrand in .308 and a semi auto ppsh:D

Cause the FG42 sucked?

From a design standpoint it was really innovative. It was basically an early stab at making an assault rifle. It could have been an early version of the M4 carbine for all we know. The only problem was that they chambered it in 8mm mauser, so it had huge blast and flash, painful recoil and weighed a ton. More like a short barrelled, select fire M60 without a belt than a real assault rifle.

M1C - low stopping power
 The M1C was a sniper version of the M1 Garand, firing the standard .30/06 round. Low stopping power?

Perhaps you meant the M1 carbine . . . a different kettle of fish entirely.
