What is your go to in this situation?

I misread, the op said "10-15 cop cars" and a SWAT team. Which is a good many more than 10-15 cops. Maybe I also misunderstood the intent of the poster.

So try this...Grab a gun, any gun that can be seen from a distance, and run smack dab into the middle of that situation shouting "Brothers I am here to Help!" over and over again while waving the firearm over your head. Let us know please how that works out for ya.

As Evil said in post #17 though, apparently the op decided that the best thing to do was to get on the internet. Next tweet your friends and update the Facebook status.

Lay low!

As for dialing 911 if someone is at the door, claiming to be an officer, to get some kind of "pass code" for verification, well, no such thing exists around here. It would be possible here to call, to find out if an officer is really at your door, but calling 911 to do so would take quite a bit of time, as the 911 operators are a separate entity from the PD dispatch system, and within PD dispatch, the call-takers separate from the dispatchers.

If you dial the direct dispatch line around here, expect to be on hold for awhile.

In short, there may be no quick way to confirm that a person knocking on your door is a police officer.

Lock the doors. Keep everyone uncomfirmed outside and waiting. No need to go to a gun first with a decent plan. With a decent plan, any gun will do.

I agree with Chris Rhines. Law enforcement is there to take care of the situation. There's not much you can do but stay out of the way and keep your wits about you as always.

As I type there are at least 10 to 15 cop cars and the swat team atleast 150 yards from my house. I've gotten word that its a hostage situation but the hostage is free (a little kid). But what would be your go to or close to your side weapon at this time?

Make sure all doors and windows are locked. Sit back and watch the news. I always have my G30 on me or within reach anyway, so nothing different there.
