I agree about the CCI mini mags. Its worth the extra couple bucks compared to the cheap stuff, extremely consistent and ive never had a dud or jam using CCI provided my guns were clean.

Ive had good luck with Federal bulk ammo. I like their champion round nose and the 36-grain hollowpoint value pack. Ballistics tests show this hollowpoint to have excellent penetration and expansion from a rifle.

I use two different kinds . . .
CCI Green Tag for my Savage bolt rifle with the aperture sights . . .
for my Ruger 22/45 Mk III, I finally settled on CCI Mini-Mags, but it only eats the solids, it misfeeds frequently on the hollow-points.

Eley Sport, Aquila Std Vel or CCi Blazer. All are great for economical informal target shooting or plinking. If you are flush with bucks or into heavy benchrest competition your more expensive ammo like Tenex makes a big difference but for everday shooting the less costly ammo does fine in my book. Remington bulk is one to leave on the shelf in the store.

Whats my favorite? Target ammo, SK, Wolf, Eley, RWS, Lapua, so so ammo is like a so so rifle, not very interesting. But it does cost money to shoot.

Believe it or not, my favorite are the Aquilla (sp?) Super Colibris. 90% of my shooting is varmit/target within the property and with neighbors close by on two sides, the almost silent noise level and excellent accuracy (16" barrel) make it as unnoticeable as a pellet gun.

The only draw back is that they don't have the power to cycle the bolt on my old Browning auto, so I have to charge it between shots.

The manufacturer doesnt recommend using these in a rifle (to eliminate the risk of a round sticking in a long barrel), but I've never had an issue...

mini mag
I do like RWS subsonic hps and Eley High velocity. but the 36 grn minimag is what i reach for when someones gun want shoot. For the money best ammo made.

Believe it or not, my favorite are the Aquilla
Other than dedicated target loads, the Aguila Standard Velocity is the most accurate 22 I've shot.
I have a couple bricks left and only use it when I want exceptional accuracy.

I also have been using Aguila HV, sub sonic, etc, for some years. In thousands of rounds I can not think of a single malfunction.

EXCEPT, when Aguila first came out with their hyper velocity (don't remember the name), at least half of two bricks wouldn't fire.
I called them and they said they did have startup problems and offered to replace the ammo.

Generally whatever's on the shelf and cheapest. Best shooting for me are Remington Subsonic and CCI SV both with very consistent velocity through a chronograph. But that's not a critical factor for me. I'm now shooting my way through a box of Thunderbolts and despite all I've heard they're not half bad. Only 1 of 100 so far a dud. The other 99 do a fine job shredding beer cans out here in the desert.

I use a variety of .22 ammo and have decent luck with most all of them, including Federal bulk. But my all-time favorite and the one I like to use, regardless of which pistol or rifle I'm firing, is the Mini-Mag. IMO, you can't beat it for quality or accuracy or consistency.

Federal Bulk for plinking, CCI Mini-mags for just slightly better accuracy.

Of interest, I picked up a semi-bulk box (300 count?) of Federal Target loads last week. Dirtiest stuff I've ever shot, but no misfires. I was shooting out of a S&W MP 15-22 in an indoor range...couldn't see smoke from the Federal Bulk, but the Federal Target was like shooting black powder.

Stay away from Remington Bulk....crappy stuff.

1)Whatever I can find
2)Cheapest

I shoot bolt action and single action, so I don't have the problems that appear sometimes in semi-auto. It's all good.

Almost all the rimfire shooting I do is bullseye practice and competition with my High Standard Citation. The only thing I shoot out of it is CCI Standard Velocity. High speed ammunition will crack the frame.

I don't mean to steal the thread, but has anybody used the CCI Velocitors? I've been told it's a great varmint round, but I can't seem to finad any or anybody that claims to have shot it.
Does anybody have a favorite hyper velocity round that's pretty much trouble free?
Please PM me if you have shot it or have one to recommend.

I really like the CCI Velocitor out of my rifles. It is very accurate out of a couple of rebarreled 10/22s, Weatherby semiauto, and Winchester 9422. It comes close to 22Mag performance.

It is not the best pistol ammo. It loses a lot in a short barrel.

I also have had good results with CCI 40gr std vel, CCI Mini Mag and Wolf Match. For all around use Federal bulk pack HP has been better than I expected.

One thing I found with my guns is to shoot at least 20 rds when changing ammo before doing any accuracy testing. It seems every brand of ammo "seasons" the barrel a bit differently.

CCI Mini-Mags.

Very good consistent .22 ammo, much better than the cheap bulk stuff especially in autos. I've never had a .22 that ever choked on them.

That being said I shoot way more of the cheap bulk for practice and plinking.

Kinda like centerfire ammo with the bulk stuff being the cheap practice rounds and the Mini-Mags for when I'm serious.
