Went to the rifle range Sunday with a couple of friends.
Several people asked, after seing the targets with rather impressive groups and looking over the Bushmaster Varminter, what's it like to shoot? So I thought about it, and gave various accounts, but thought I'd try to write up what it actually feels like here:

The Varminter is such a stress reliever! It generates it's own stress, but it's good stress. This is what it's like:
The rifle is obviously intimidating and powerful looking. It also has this dominating mystique to it. Here's this non-PC evil black high powered assault sniper rifle that will shoot the Space Shuttle's nuts off at 3,000 miles, or at least that's the rumor.
So you settle down behind this thing's scope. The magnification is at 24x, you're so zoomed in that the reticule is bouncing with your heartbeat. You tighten your finger a touch on the trigger, and you know it's about to break. You're fighting the crosshairs, trying to keep them in the center of the bull's eye that's a hundred yards away while trying to time your breathing with your thudding heart and the swinging, bouncing reticule, which is starting to disappear in a gray haze as your mind begins to force a tunnel vision effect within the scope. Then, it's almost like you will the trigger to break, and Boom. The rifle kicks around a bit, a plume of dust erupts up behind the target stand, and when everything settles down, you see a little black hole in the target. Then you exhale. Repeat as necessary.

That's what it's all about. The Hokey-Pokey ain't got nothing on this!

I know what you mean.........

I have a Colt and it is so accurate that when fed it's favorite load, it's down right scary. Let a friends son shoot it this weekend and he managed to head shoot a bumble bee at 100 yards!

That's what I told my friend.

You know the rifle can make the shot, the ammo can make the shot...it's all down to you. But there is such a sense of accomplishment when you see that hole in the bull and you know you put it there! Sweet....

I haven't even taken mine home yet. I have however fired it. One of my shooting buddies got in some financial trouble and needed some cash fast. So, I agreed to buy his Varmiteer from him. I need it like a need a hole in the head. This will make like 10 or 11 ARs for me. But, I wanted to help him out and I am sure it will be fun. I gave him $900 for the complete rifle, scope, mount, big charging handle latch, and a Hogue grip. Not a great deal, but it was a charity case. Actually I gave him half to cover this weeks bills and I will pay the rest next week. That is why I haven't taken it home yet.

Let me make sure I've got this right!

Your buddy has your AR-15, and your $450.00, and is less than 50 miles from LasVegas, NV ?

Just which one of you is the GAMBLER ????

Must really be some BUDDY ! Or a mighty good charity

GOOD LUCK WITH EITHER YOUR MONEY OR YOUR RIFLE

:D

Why would he have to go to Las Vegas ? We have plenty of casinos, brothels, and gun shops right here. If he was going to rip me off, he would have done it long ago. We have some kind of deal going pretty much all the time.
