Below is something I just found on my second hard drive. The digital date puts it in 2001, when I was still in college, so I'm sure it's something I wrote for a class.

Tell me what you think.

The anti-gun groups sometimes mention that if a law or banning saves even one life then it's worth it. Then they follow up with the statement, "guns kill." Yes, it is a correct statement that they can be used by one to cause the death of another. Let's take this simple statement further, then.

knives kill
forks kill
golf clubs kill
automobiles kill
tennis rackets kill
baseball bats kill
pool sticks kill
fists kill
thrown rocks kill
frozen fish kill
football tackles kill
AIDS kills
hepatitus kills
sex kills
blood transfusions kill
brain operations kill
heart bypasses kill
liposuction kills
anesthetic kills
NASCAR kills
NHRA kills
rockets kill
space shuttles kill
space exploration kills
arctic exploration kills
jungle expeditions kill
slingshots kill
boomerangs kill
swords kill
yo-yos kill

Furthermore, let's look at objects that do not even need a second party to kill:

ladders kill
trees kill
swimming pools kill
oceans kill
sharks kill
wasps kill
bees kill
snakes kill
spiders kill
alligators kill
mosquitoes kill
chairs kill
Christmas light bulbs kill
household outlets kill
rope kills
drain cleaner kills
tall buildings kill
bridges kill
stairs kill
cigarettes kill
sunlight kills
rockclimbing kills
avalanches kill
tornados kill
hurricanes kill
volcanoes kill
tsunamis kill
floods kill
landslides kill
carbon monoxide kills
exertion kills
blood clots kill
bunk beds kill
airbags kill
strokes kill
anurysms kill
allergies kill
asthma kills
bicycles kill
matches kill
slipping kills
bleach kills
ammonia kills
ham sandwiches kill
gambling suicides kill
scooters kill
neckties kill
belts kill
arsenic kills

This is a small list that I compiled. Using the gun-grabbers philosophy that even one life saved is worth the sacking of people's homes to grab these objects of destruction, outlawing these items will surely help. And I have no doubt in my mind that the doctor next door will be absolutely thrilled when the FBI arrives at 3:00 A.M. to secure the perimeter of his pool. He will be grateful that the killing grounds that he paid thousands of dollars for is being dismantled for the good of humanity, with no compensation to himself. And we will all feel safer the next time a sniper from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobbacco, Firearms, and Yo-Yos drops an unruly eight year old who had the audacity to bring an unregistered Duncan to school. And Jonny Cochran will be delighted to know he'll have an opportunity to defend God in court for the mass slayings of innocent people as a result of the careless use of hurricanes and earthquakes.

That is a total cop out. If you can't have a sensible debate that ignores the basic principle that an inanimate object can not make choices, then there is no point trying to get the principles of gun control through your thick head. Redneck! :neener:

Guns were designed to kill. :neener:

Still, if they really cared about safety and well-being, they'd be banning cigarettes and trans-fats, and putting everybody on a gerbil wheel to make them exercise five minutes a day.

I don't think there's anything in the Constitution about gerbil wheels. It might be worth a shot.

Now the UK has a complete list so they can check items off as they go.

Bad argument. Several of those are highly regulated.
blood transfusions kill
brain operations kill
heart bypasses kill
liposuction kills
anesthetic kills
-Doctors go for years of training, take board examinations, and pay for licenses. Is that what you want?

tall buildings
bridges
-Architects and builders have all sorts of hoops to jump through.

AIDS, clots, etc.
-Pharmaceutical companies pour billions of dollars and years of their lives into trying to develop medicines. Every step of the process is overseen by FDA. GLP, GMP, GCP. You want to have to fill out paperwork and get signatures from a supervisor, to document the beginning-to-end for every bullet, target, and cleaning rag?

I actually got hit in the temple from a golf ball. It was about a 200 yard drive. Knocked me out cold. Maybe that's why I'm so retarded--I mean mentally challenged.

Any moron with a good memory can study, pass the exams, and become a doctor. I see them all the time. Not the norm obviously, but they are out there.

I had a doctor ask me what we could do to get the humidity down faster in the OR so they could use it. I told him we could get a dehumidifier. He asked me what that would do. I told him "dehumidify"

Really pissed him off. :D

Antis don't care about the lives, they just use it as an excuse to their means. if they cared about lives, they would be upset about many things, but they are not.

Ban them all! Only then will we be safe!

Ask them to name ONE thing that has been banned that was previously available to the general public in which the ban has effectively removed that item from the reach of anyone willing to violate the law. (Then research it) A ban drives the product to the black (Criminal) unregulated market and makes the item more expensive. The best example is the FAILURE of the war on drugs. Its working so well, you can go do any street corner and get whatever you are so inclined to buy. Alchohol was tried, several times....that worked well (Sarcasm). Prostitution is banned in all states, less Nevada. So that must mean there arent any hookers anywhere else, right! DDT was banned in the US and in most developed countries but here is a stat. on it;s continued use, "Today, about 4-5,000 tonnes of DDT is used each year...van den Berg, Henk; Secretariat of the Stockholm Convention (October 23, 2008). " So what else should we ban? :banghead: Cause it works (LOL)!

How bout we ban the word...... "ban", I'm so sick of hearing the word. Seems like it's used daily anymore.

football tackles kill

Just for argument sake, I (kind of) disagree with this one. I played for 15 years and never saw anything worse than a neck stinger. Following my favorite sport for the past 26 years (only 32 yo) I've never seen (on tv) or heard of anything worse than a broken neck (causing "just" paralysis). AFAIK (not saying that it hasn't happened), but AFAIK a death has never occured because of football. With the exceptions of exhaustion or heat stroke. If you (or anybody) have any info disputing this, I'll be glad to recant the statement.

OTOH, there have been deaths reported from thrown and batted baseballs. Also angry soccer fans have been known to kill.

I should have specified my opinion more. Namely organized football with modern safety equipment. Of which the second and third links would be disqualified by those standards. The second being a pick-up game of yard ball (even if it was at a school, it was not organized or properly equipped). The third happening in 1909, there was very little safety equipment, much less up to modern standards.

But regarding the first link, I'm stick by my word and say that I was wrong. It's an unfortunate thing that happened. I always knew that the possibility was there, just never saw (or heard) of a case where death happened. It may be a little morbid, but I'd like to see a video of the hit. I just wonder if it was a freak accident, or improper technique (that could have made it more likely).

But I will say it again, I was wrong about the fact of tackles causing death. Albeit rare.

Good list.

For the gun grabbers it is not really about making the people safer. It is about making people scared, because when people are scared they expect their politicians to "Do something" about what scares them. Even if what the politicians do makes things worse.
