What kind of target is this?

It's called a Texas Star, sometimes it has a weight to start it spinning when another target is shot. Very cool target system indeed.

They use those Texas Stars in various shooting competitions. The first time I ever saw one was shown on the old American Shooter show or the new Shooting USA show at a SASS Cowboy/Old west match. (Single Action Shooting Society)

It took that guy 4 seconds to get it done, thats the fastest ive seen it done.

Ive shot that same set up, once in Boulder MT and once in North Dakota

The second time was worse than the first cuz I thought about it to much.

Texas Stars

I shoot "Steel Madness" 2-3 times per month in Norco, CA. There are always a few stages with Texas Stars and sometimes multiple stars on a single stage. They're very hard to clear quickly as not only to you have to nail the steel plates rapidly, you have to do so in an order that keeps it from picking up too much momentum and spinning all the faster. A really good run will see the star move as little as possible.

There's an inevitable 'oh ****' when you walk into a stage and see a Texas star!
