what knife do you carry?

My EDC is a 3" Gerber Paraframe. Cheap enough that if a I lose it at the work studio in the university I won't cry about it. Plus light enough that it doesn't bug me when it's in the pocket with all my other things.

One in awhile I'll take out the SOG Fielder, but the Gerber is a proven workhorse.

Have carried A Spyderco C07 daily for close to 20 years I think. Man, time flies when you get older.

Knives:

1. Benchmade Griptilian Black Scales, Drop Point
2. Benchmade Mini-Griptilian, Black Scales, Drop Point
3. Benchmade Benchmite II
4. Case Barehead Slimline Trapper, Yellow/CV
5. Al Mar Eagle Ultralight
6. Buck Alpha Hunter
7. CRKT M-16, Black Scales, Drop Point
8. SAK Classic

All knives are plain edge

MultiTools
1. Leatherman Micra
2. Several cheapies, all promotional/industry giveaways

I travel a lot, so I don't carry knives all the time. When I do carry a knife, I tend to rotate the knives fairly evenly, with the exception of the Buck Alpha Hunter which does car duty along with the cheapie multitools.

It varies from day to day but generally speaking it might be a Benchmade Mini-Griptilian, Kershaw Scallion, S&W S.O.R.T. (all three of these have half serated blades), SAK Classic, or a Schrade SP2 Lightweight Lockback. The other night I forgot to put one in my pocket before I went out so I stopped by a local sporting goods store and picked up a Gerber Trendy. Just something about the styling of it that appealed to me.

Lord, ain't it the truth?!

I've had a lot through the years, but I've carried a Benchmade Mini Griptillian for about the last 4 or 5 years or so. Took me a little while to warm up to the Axis lock, but it's hard to go back to anything else now.

Benchmade griptillian, leatherman micra, and leatherman new wave with the bit extension and extra bits. On sundays, its a kershaw chive and crkt laredo, along with the micra.

Recently bought a Benchmade Onslaught for my daily carry, very nice knife,up to the usual Benchmade quality.

Today it's this one, tomorrow possibly something else. Odds are that it will be a slip joint with carbon steel blades, though.

I used to have a couple Normark knives and they were fine little blades. I don't know wether to like your post or hate it. Since I am now convinced I need to order one. Are they still the knives they were 15+ years ago?

Normark Brands

Well, I have good news and bad news.

First, the bad news. Normark [post=4690211]no longer sells hunting gear[/post], including knives.

However, if you have paid attention to the blades Normark sold, you will recall that every Normark branded knife had a blade made by one of the Scandinavian knife companies. The fixed blades were predominantly either Mora blades (made by one of the various Mora companies) or Marttiini blades (from Finland), or Järvenpää Iisakki (also Finland). All their folders were made by EKA of Eskilstuna, Sweden.

The various Mora companies have, over the years filtered down until there were only two big brands left, and they finally merged into a single outfit, combining their product lines as "Mora of Sweden," or more simply, MoraKniv. Marttiini and Järvenpää Iisakkie are still producing Scandinavian blades in Finland. (It should be noted, of course, that Mora isn't the only line of Swedish knives, and Marttiini & Järvenpää aren't the only Finnish knives.)

EKA is still there, and still making knives, but they've partnered with Outdoor Edge for some of their newer stuff, and a few of those pieces are made in China. However, the old standby pieces are still "all Sweden, all the time." In particular, if you find someplace selling the Swede 92, Swede 82, Swede 88, Nordic T8, Nordic H8, Nordic A10, EKA Compact, Swede 1000, or EKA Folding Fillet, those pieces are all Swedish made.

The Swede 92 is the same knife as the Normark knife you see in my pictures (save branding and color). It's this . . .

. . . and with a wood (Bubinga) handle, it's the Swede 82, this one . . .

As it happens, I have one of each: the Normark "American Hunter," the EKA Swede 92, and the EKA Swede 82. I gave one of the Normarks to my son-in-law, and the other to my son.

So, the answer to your question, "Are they still the knives they were 15+ years ago?" is actually, yes, under the OEM brand names, they are.

Look around the Web. You will find they are still out there.

Knives i got is my Great-Grandfathers Schrade Buck 110 folding. (Retired that knife, it had gut lots of deer.) And the one i use is a Timberwolf Blazin Bowie. Very nice feels good and holds edge great. Got a cool thumb ridge on the top.
