So guys i just got my first AR-15 it came with two magazines,so that got me
thinking i need more:D So my question to all you smart people is what
magazines should i get?

Personally, I would stick to steel, as the plastic mags seem to break lips pretty frequently. Also, as I understand it, the key is to buy the mags with the green follower. I have no idea as to why that is, but I have done so and been very satisfied with the results.

The green followers are the most recent version. Magpul's might be better yet.

GI mags are always a good bet. Just stay away from "Cooper" or "Sanchez" made versions.

I recently received some Magpul "PMAG"s. They seem high quality, and were not particularly expensive.

I've had good luck buying from 44mag.com. I buy my D&H mags from them and have not had a problem with tany them. I have 35 30 rounders and plan on some more. Bravo Company is another dealer I have dealt with and would recommend them too.

USGI mags are aluminum and have been working fine for 40+ years. There is a light green follower (anti-tilt) that was added in the early 90's to correct the possibility the front of the follower "might" in certain cases tilt forward causing a jam. If you don't have the green followers and your mags work fine...don't worry about it. The mags in gear here in Iraq are old ones without the new follower and they have working fine for "many" years. If they do jam with regularity you might buy some new followers to correct the problem...or just buy a whole new mag as they are pretty cheap and plentiful.

Steel mags are heavier, some can rust and they may cause additional wear to the lower of your AR over time and repeated use. Price may be the same as USGIs but in the end I recommend USGIs...

I don't know exactly how you'll use the rifle, but you might want to get some mileage on it before you buy a bunch of magazines. I say this because I've discovered that for much of my usage I actually prefer 20 rounders to 30s.

USGIs are fine, my favorites are D&H 20s, and HKs are great (30s) but way overpriced (~$40).

The post 1988 Sanchez mags (when they began using the green follower) are fine. I've used a coupla dozen w/out a problem myself. The ones w/the black followers are another matter.

I've had great luck with C-Products mags. I think I paid $10 for new steel mags with green anti tilt magpul followers.
