Pretty much anything with a removable magazine that holds more than 10 rounds, including semi-auto pistols.

I understand that an assault weapons ban, among other local laws, was upheld in Washington, D.C.
What makes a gun an assault weapon in D.C.?

Any firearm used for self defense is an Assualt Weapon
Any firearn used to commit a crime is a Freedom Fighter's Manifesto of Independance

IIRC, any SEMI-automatic that can fire 12 or more rounds without reloading (in other words, any semi-auto that has a detachable magazine, since a magazine can be made in any size) is considered a "machine gun" and banned under D.C. law.

How's that for an abuse of language and the meanings of words?

High capacity magazine
flash guard
pistol grip
folding stock
bayonet lug.

If the gun has three or more of these qualities, it is classified as an assault weapon.

For example;
My Colt Match Target HBARII is not... no flash, lug or folding stock.
My son's Stag M2L is...has all 5.
